Viet Nam Wildlife Expedition Extraordinaire!

With only 9 days to give it a go, we were amazed that we could actually see 28 species of mammals! And some of them being some of the rarest primates on earth! I would have never predicted such good fortune but we really lucked out. And on top of the wildlife, we explored some outstanding terrain and scenery and experienced a rich culture too. Enjoy!

Another fascinating trip report, with awesome pictures and interesting insights into a side of Vietnam that most visitors don't work hard enough to see. Thanks so much for posting--your work is inspiring! It's going to take me a long time to read all your other reports, but that's definitely on my to-do list. Where are you going next?

Thanks aprillilacs! We're in Anhui province of China right now just finishing up an amazing trip. Look forward to the report in the coming weeks! And then next is Yunnan and then Central African Republic, Uganda, Kenya and Ethiopia this summer!

Thanks - I am a bit surprised there is not more interest on Fodors. Maybe next time more bowling alleys and video arcades...

I am sure plenty of people have read part of this beautiful report They just haven't taken the time to post a thank you, unfortunately! Love the pictures and commentary. Have gone through a large portion. Saving some for later!

The Cokesmiths are at it again! Another fascinating destination that almost didn’t happen. How frustrating on the front end of the trip.

The star crossed buff cheek gibbons love story you included was a heartbreaker, but so nicely illustrated.

If you wanted Red-shanked Doucs, you got ‘em!

Flitting primates are such tough subjects, nice job on capturing so many. And you added a whole lot of birds to your list.

As for travelers showing an interest in Vietnam, at least for me the spirit is willing but the checkbook balks. Fascinating travel opportunities outnumber the resources. Your account is very inspiring to any wildlife enthusiast. Maybe I could combine some wildlife viewing for me with a veterans trip for my husband to Vietnam someday. You got me thinking!

You know what this site needs? A counter to show views. Lots more folks read than reply.
Your Gujarat account got me to return to India under 12 months after I left, so why not Vietnam!?

Could you do a brief # of days, location list of what you did?

I'm one of the lurkers who has enjoyed all your posts :)

Two other things I forgot to mention. How very lucky with the bear sighting. What a tough kid you have to offer his bloody leech wound up for a documentation photo!

I wish I could say I read it, but blogs with white words on a dark background are just too painful to read. I'll have to wait for it to come out in Nat Geo.. ;-)

Thanks everyone! Glad to know there are those out there looking at the reports. I know what you mean about the white print in black background - same issue for me. I am afraid to hit the "change" button in the website builder for fear of what might happen...;-)

Atravelynn: Here is the basic of the trip:

11 days planned - 10 done due to flight mess-up...

Day 1 - Saigon
Day 2, 3, 4 - Cat Tien National Park
Day 5, 6 - Danang- Son Tra, Hoi An
Day 7 - Bach Ma National Park, Hue
Day 8, 9 Phong Nha NP
Day 10 - back to Shanghai...

A bit more rushed than we usually do things but spring break was what it was...
