Vientienne hotels

I love the Khamvongsa. It's very inexpensive, right across the street from Wat Impeng and a 2 blocks from Le Silapa, a wonderful small French cafe. I wouldn't say it's luxury but it has a wonderful relaxing character with all wooden floors and spacious rooms.

Check out Lao Orchid, great location, clean, cheap but lovely. k and I stayed there. $45 per night! We had a balcony overlooking the local Wat. Actually really liked it ( not up to Muffins standards of course but then he wasn't with me :))

Actually Bob, no pool though?? sala Impeng had a great location (sp?)

Somehow Bob I don't think you would like Sala Impeng. It's a small guesthouse - no restaurant or pool or anything. I like it for a few days but it's basic even if lovely and well positioned

Dearer but more the style I think you'd want might be the Green Park. Other side of town to Sala Impeng and Lao Orchid but still okay. It's very near the COPE centre which has an interesting exhibit on bomb rehabilitation. About 500mts from the morning market.

There are also lots of new hotels that have gone up recently but few have pools. Prices have also gone up a lot lately.

pool not essential for a short stay..

thanks for these i will investigate...

I would suggest the Lao Orchid Hotel. This is central and very pleasant. The cost is about $50.00US pn
The Green Park is a bit out of the way and very expensive; it is nice though. Rashmis hotel is brand new, and at the end of Khouvieng. You would need a tuk tuk to get to town, as you would from the Green Park. If you are going to spend that sort of money, a MUCH better choice is the Setha Palace, which is central and has old colonial splendour

Bob, if you go for Lao Or hid get one with a view of the Mekong or one tha overlooks the cute little Wat opposite.

i have looked at and contacted the salana botique hotel but i will look at all the other suggestions... thanks

There is no Mekong view at the Lao Orchid hotel. There certainly is one of the temple opposite.

From Tripadvisor:

"My first visit to the Lao PDR. The hotel is in a very good location of Vientiane. I stayed on the top floor which had a balcony and a good view of the river front of the Mekong...."

I have a picture from the balcony of my room at the LO which shows a river view, granted not a great view but a river view just the same......

Vientianeboy Jan 6th, 2012 09:12 PM

As there is a building between the LO and the Mekong and as the Mekong now has a high concrete flood embankment which means you cannot see the river unless you stand on that embankment, you would need X-Ray vision to see the Mekong from the LO now.

Hanuman, old pictures?

rhkkmk Apr 16th, 2012 10:23 AM

i decided on the salana and will review it after our stay in november

khunwilko Apr 19th, 2012 09:20 AM

Salana - $115 a bit dear - no parking (only sidewalk opposite) but nicely finished "boutique" hotel. Staff are well trained and polite

rhkkmk Apr 19th, 2012 01:55 PM

don't need parking and i thought for the price it looked quite nice..

hawaiiantraveler Apr 19th, 2012 02:41 PM
