VHS - Cutting It Fine!

As usual - still researching/finalising trip - leave 28th Feb.

Having difficulty finding mid-range hotel in Kolkata. Main criteria is "clean" - reviewed on trip advisor but most (apart from top end) seem to have a reason NOT to book.

Can anyone help please?

What's your price range vhs?
You can get a room at the Oberoi for 8,000 rs. on their website.

Lol - you arrive the day I leave.

Frankly, if you can afford that, grab it. Kolkata is a pit for other hotels and Oberoi is right in the middle of everything - and bloody fine to boot.

Mid-range is virtually impossible. Just do the Oberoi if you can afford it. Cut to the chase in Kolkata - it's easier.

Dogster - would love to book the Oberoi although this would normally be out of our price range. 5000 INR is more realistic.......

We will only be in CCU for 2 nights so I guess we could treat ourselves as a one-ff but I can't find the 8000 INR rate. Could it be you looked at 28th Feb? We leave for BKK/Laos/Vietnam on that date but don't arrive in CCU until 30th Mar. I can only see 9000 INR per night...

Yes, I did look at Feb. Even 9,000 is cheap there - but I understand about the $$. I've suggested the Fairlawn in another post. I reckon that the go. That's right in backpacker central and will put you on the circuit. From there you'll meet people who'll tell you where to go.

I'd also suggest the Fairlawn. Certainly no Oberoi, but an experience (not a bad one). And a good location.
