Using dollars in Singapore

We will be in Singapore for a day and a half before boarding a cruise. We will need a cab from the airport, a cab to the pier, maybe do some sightseeing on the Hop On Hop Off bus or Metro, have a drink at Raffles, etc. Our flight arrives after midnight. Should we change money at the airport or will cabs and these small incidental activities take dollars?

Change money. The currency in SIngapore is the Singapore dollar. There will be exchange windows open or you can use an ATM at the airport.

As Kathie says above, get some money at the airport, as in Singapore dollars. I just go straight to the exchange window. You can't miss it. As to where the ATM machines are located, I don't know.

If I don't have a lot of leftover money, from previous vacations there, then I just get some money while I'm waiting for my luggage to come. Then I pick up the luggage and walk over to the taxi line. Things in Singapore are VERY orderly and easy. Happy Travels!

"...have a drink at the Raffles..."

Take lots of cash if you plan to have a Singapore Sling. Two years ago, they were S$ 27 each!

I'm curious as to why you would expect US Dollars to be acceptable in Singapore.

will taxis in your town or city take singapore dollars?? think about it..

many things you can just pay for by credit card...not sure about taxis

" Small incidental activities" :-)..$27.00 for a drink :-)

Suggest the OP goes to Cambodia where US currency is accepted.

Kathie Dec 20th, 2010 09:46 AM

Do visit Raffles, but forget the drink. I don't even like Singapore Slings - too sweet for me!

Thanks. I am duly reprimanded. I read somewhere that taxis in Singapore take US dollars, so I was just wondering if other places in Singapore do. There's always a credit card for the Singapore Slings! ;-) We are also going to Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. I knew Vietnam took US dollars but didn't know that Camdodia did.

The US dollar is the currency of choice in Cambodia. While vendors (and taxi drivers from the airport) in VN will take US dollars, the currency in VN is the dong.
