US $1 bills in Borneo/Malaysia?

In many countries it's handy to have a number of US dollar bills for tips and buying souvenirs. Is this the case for Borneo, or is the local currency the best or only way to go? Thx.

No, you really do want the local currency, the ringgit.

Ok, Kathie, thanks.

As usual, Kathie is correct.

larry---how would ringgits work in your town??

Let's put it this way. If you tipped in USD in the KL hotels, it's unlikely to be a problem as money changers are everywhere. It's another matter if you're in a small town in Borneo. You can change money in KLIA when you arrive.
