Unique things to do in Bangkok

Context ... I lived in Bangkok for 2 years. Headed back for vacation with my wife.

What are some unique things to do in Bangkok? As an example ... see a Thai soap opera or game show live.

Thoughts?

Shade-last November, four of us that are frequent visitors to BKK spent a wonderful day with Tong, a guide. We made merit, visited a seaside village with a wonderful boat trip onto the gulf and visited an orphanage. It was a fascinating day.

The Prasart Museum is worth a visit. Also worthwhile is the M.R. Kukrit House.

Yes, if you haven't seen the Prasart, do go. And the Kukrit House is on our agenda for this year. Have you seen the Laquer Pavillion at the Suan Pakkard Palace?

What about making merit? Perhaps the early morning merit-making at Wat Ben.

What is merit?

Here's a Wikipedia definition that sums it up:-
"Merit (Sanskrit puṇya, Pāli puñña) is a concept in Buddhism, and particularly in Theravada Buddhism. Merit can be gained in a number of ways. It is merit that accumulates as a result of good deeds, acts or thoughts and that carries over to later in life or to a person's next birth. Such merit contributes to a person's growth towards liberation."
In Thailand (& the Far East) people gain merit in a variety of ways, giving to monks, liberating birds etc that have been captured etc. etc.

Dive with sharks at the aquarium? They take novices and your watched by all the visitors as well- like a fish in a tank

Have eaten at Sirocco (Sky Bar). Outstanding and very memorable. This trip will probably try Vertigo.

Make merit all the time here in NoVa, but a good suggetion.

Intrigued by the orphanage visit. Would actually like to do the shark dive. Where is that at?

Any more info on the orphanage?

Other ideas?

Shark dive at the Aquarium in the basement of Siam Paragon. Better dress well and make sure your hair is tidy - you'll be the object of a great deal of attention - and I don't mean from the sharks.

That said, I confess to an adolescent hankering to do it as well.

And I'd second Sirocco at Lebua. Knock out. Mucho $$$.
