UK Hight Street clothes in BKK?
A lot of the clothes sold in the UK high street are made in Thailand. Is it possible to buy them direct from markets and other outlets as you can in HK? many thanks

Sally: You will be able to find those clothes just anywhere in Thailand and probably much cheaper than in the UK.
Don't forget to discuss the price. When you buy two or more items, you can always make a good deal. If it seems to be too pricey, walk off. They sales guy/girl will probably call you back and agree with what you are willing to pay. Don't forget, all this is part of the deal. Don't buy close too sightseeing attractions. Prices there are usually higher than at night markets you'll find just about anywhere too.
Have fun in Thailand!

Sally,

I'm a garment manufacturer who manufacture for the US and EEC countries. You will not be able to buy stuff you see in the UK stores here. We are under obligation and contract to ship all and we do not have the right to sell the brand name locally. You will find a lot of fake stuff but most people can tell that they are fake. The only exception I can think of is when there is the same store in both country. Example - Nike Town, Gap, Guess etc both country will have similar garments for sale but the price will be all most similar.

Sorry!

Hm.... did I get your question wrong, Sally?
I thought you were comparing with HK (which I read as Hongkong) where you can buy all types of clothes for instance at Stanley Market.

Ursula p yes your understadnignis correct, I have bought all sorts of lavels - planet, A&F, old navy, Monsoon etc in stanley market as well as designer fakes and was wondering if the same applied in BKK?

I think you're referring to "b" grade or clothing with defect. If they are real the label and any trade mark will be either cut or remove. Otherwise you will have to buy them through "outlets" or the black market. If you're after an authentic "b" grade then you can find them here and there around Bangkok.

I manufacture for the Gap group(Banana Repulic & Old Navy) and there are no Gap outlet in Thailand. The stuff that is widely available as Ursula have described are fake to the extent that they didn't even bother copying from the original design. Basically they just put a fancy fake label on a garment, perhaps with a fake print or embroidery. The best fake in Asia is at Tchen Szen, China. They will even sell the stuff to you with a fake shopping bag!

Try "Siam Square" and look around the various shops throughout the sois. These items are genuine designer stuff but purchased during sale season abroad and resold locally. Price are negotiable and often lower than on your high street. I think there is a village just outside of london near Oxford call Beister or something like that. There you can buy out of date designer wear and "b" grade items.
