Tuk Tuks

How many passengers can get in a Tuk Tuk, and how much do they cost for say 1 hour, I assume you have to bargain over the price.

For adults I would say 3 pax with some comfort. I've seen more than 6 pax in one tuk tuk but they were students trying to save a buck!

I've ridden them with my husband and 2 daughters, and it was okay. For an hour, I'd offer 50 or 60 baht max in Bangkok.

John,

A bargain isn't always a bargain. I found that the drivers will give a real bargain but their intention is to stop off at tourist shops where they probably get a small commission for bringing in the farang. I would offer more - say 100-150 baht for the hour but tell them clearly what you want to do and refuse their detours to these tourist traps.

A tuk-tuk for an hour??? How painful! Happy Travels!

I agree with Guenmai. A tuk tuk for an hour would be pretty uncomfortable for me too. I do take a tuk tuk nearly everytime I'm in BKK, but only for short hops, like to Suanlum. The way they fly through the traffic is like CRAZY. We saw a near miss that would have resulted in deaths, for sure!! It was between a tuk tuk and an SUV. The tuk tuk would have "lost" the argument.

That said, they are "fun" for a quick thrill ride. But for an hour? I think NOT.

i can't imagine more than 2 people with any comfort....there is no comfort to begin with so more than 2 people would be horrible....the problem i have with them: i am only 6 feet tall but when i sit up straight i can't see out the sides as the roof sides hang down too much....not good for sightseeing for that reason...

one hour way too long!!!

as said above, many entice you with a cheap ride only to take you shopping at commission places or places they can get free gas...that's in bkk anyways...

taxis are far preferable in every way...one time experience is ok but leave it at that...best done in the country....in laos they have larger tuk tuks which are far more comfortable...
