Anybody have thoughts on the Trisara resort? How is the beach and the water?

We have just returned from our honeymoon in Thailand and were extremely happy with the warm, attentive service at Trisara. It seems they have been open for business for only one month.

We did not swim in their small private bay, spent most of our time in our villa pool. IMHO, having your own pool is better than access to a beach!

There is a more picturesque beach less than 5 mins drive away called Nai Thon beach. Trisara can provide a pickup service to and from the beach. There are no crowds at all at Nai Thon and sun loungers are available. Very good water quality at this long, wide sandy beach.

Villa indoor/outdoor living space is beautiful, privacy is the key factor.

Staff-driven electric buggies are used to get around the resort. Volvo SUVs (XC90)and BMW 6-series are available as hotel limo service.

Spoke to the spa director who informed us the new hillside spa will be completed in Dec. I was able to receive a great Thai massage in our villa.

Other facilities include the library and free usage of an iPOD where the staff will download music for you onto the unit.

Again, great service is what makes this place special. We forgot our video camera peripherals and the staff went to great lengths to return them at our next destination.
Please don't hesitate to ask any more specific questions, would be happy to help.

Hi goanna, glad to hear you had a wonderful honeymoon in Trisara.
I'm planning to stay there 2 weeks later and I wanna know if there's a day trip from the hotel to some islands around phuket.
Pls let me know if you remember anything.

Hi Mako,
Yes, there a few day trips available to the various islands/beaches.
Trisara booked our trip through Phuket Adventures. This may be their website: http://www.phuket-adventures.com/
Cost was 5800 baht for two people.

We chose the one to Phi Phi Islands which includes transfer to/from hotel, speedboat transport, snorkelling gear, lunch and refreshments. The islands are beautiful, esp. Maya bay which can get congested with tourists.
Well worth the trip! BTW, if you sit at the front (prow?) of the speedboat, you may be in for a bumpy ride. I had sore muscles the day after.

goanna, thank you for your quick reply and kind advice(^^)
I wanted to know if Trisara has a tour of its own exclusive to the hotel guests.
But I will also check the phuket adventure tours. Phiphi sounds really nice!

Hi mako, I don't believe they provide their own inter-island tours as I'm sure they would have told us. Perhaps a private guide and car around Phuket is another matter.

They do provide a boat for guests to a small island you can see from their bay, another option for snorkelling.

Yes Phi Phi is great, the tour also takes you to Kai Nok (Egg Island I think! ) which is ideal for swimming and snorkelling.

Goanna,

We are considering this for our honeymoon in April. What type of villa did you stay in (ocean view, ocean front). Do you have any comments on the food? The prices seem between the Amanapuri and the Banyan Tree that we are also looking at.

Thanks for your help

Hi there,
We went for the ocean view villa as the floor space is exactly the same in every villa. The view is partially obscured by trees, but you can still see the ocean.

The indoor floor plan is the same too, its only the orientation of the pool and elevation of the villas which is different. Their website features the ocean front villa pool, the length of the pool is facing the ocean.
Our pool ran parallel to the horizon.

Whilst making our decision I asked a friend for her advice on Banyan Tree. If you were to stay there, she recommended to choose one of the pool villas. It seems the Banyan Tree prices have now decreased slightly too.

As for the food, there is a great selection on the breakfast menu.
Coconut waffle, croque madame, lobster medallion on brioche, breakfast couscous etc.
There are a few Thai choices too.

We also had dinner at their restaurant, the food was very good. Although I preferred my husband's Thai meal over the pasta I had chosen.

BTW, the GM at Trisara ran Amanpuri for 12 years so you're in good hands!

Hi everyone!
Can't wait to eat the coconut waffles!
goanna, how was the price of the food?

puck021, how about staying at 2 resorts?! I stayed at amanpuri this spring and it was amazing. Everything was just perfect. (view, pool,room,food,spa,service...)

I haven't gone to the laguna area but all the people who went there also say that it's nice there.
when you have decided, let me know which resort you chose!

mako,
Food prices were reasonable and comparable to other upscale resorts and prices here in Oz.
Thai dinner menu items were around 400 baht, Thai breakfast around 280 baht.

Lunch prices at the bar ranged from 450 to 700 baht, cocktails around 450. There were also a few 2 course set menu prices available from 1500 baht.

Most expensive items were steak (might have been Waygu or Oz)...over 1500 baht and coffee was over 200 baht.

Villa minibar included free beer, soft drinks, juice and mineral water. I believe you could ask for top-ups if necessary!

goanna, thanks for the detailed information.
wow, I'm surprised to hear the reasonable price in such a high-end resort. And free minibar drinks would help me save a lot!

BTW, I went to OZ for the second time this summer. Everyone was so friendly and I had a great time !(^0^)!

That's fine mako, glad to hear you enjoyed your time in Oz! Hope the hillside spa is ready for you to try out in Dec.

Yes, 2000 baht for 2 (excl. drinks) is not bad for a resort. And a few freebies thrown in also helps!

BTW, it's $10 US to the Laguna area by hotel limo and US$25 to Patong beach in case you want to eat out.

mako,

I am looking at staying at two places since we are going to be there a week. I have the JW Marriott booked for 3 nights using points to keep our costs under control a little bit. When we are going Amanapuri is like $1500 per night, Banyan is about $800 for a spa pool villa, and Trisara is about $1100 for ocean view. Someone also mentioned Racha, which looks pretty cool and a lot cheaper (i.e. $400 for a pool villa).

Ahhh, so many decisions.

puck021,
We also considered Racha, but as we were in Phuket only 4 days, the travel to Racha would have shortened our stay.
If a pool suite is what you need, we also considered Mom Tri's Villa Royale.
http://www.villaroyalephuket.com/accommodation.htm

I believe the owner also developed Trisara!
A pool suite in mid-April is around $500... www.sawadee.com seemed to have cheaper rates for the villa. Kata Beach is supposed to be one of the prettiest on the island.
We regret not going to their fab restaurant, Boathouse Wine & Grill.....too tired from our daytrip! Recently, one of the Fodors posters Gpanda raved about it.

Hi everyone
I was also thinking of Racha for the next trip!
the beach seems prettier than phuket.

puck021,
which room in amanpuri are you refering to?
Is it the villa home?
If you don't mind not having a private pool, you can get a room from about $700.
I stayed in the Superior Pavilion (might have been the Superior Ocean)
I was able to see the ocean from the sala and the bathtub.
check out
http://www.amanresorts.com/

I was enough satisfied with my room, but when I visited the villahome, (a staff kindly took us to a gorgeous
3 bed ocean villa) it was completly another world. amazingly beautiful.
If you can afford $1500/night, I definetly recommend the amanvilla.

After looking into things more and reading a good review on Tripadvisor, I am strongly leaning to The Racha for 4 days and the JW Marriott for 3 days. I love the isolated nature of The Racha, but also love that sleek contemporary style. Any thoughts or concerns anyone?

Anyone have any recent (post-Tsunami) experience at Trisara or Amanpuri? I was leaning towards The Racha, but that is now closed. I had a reservation at the Banyan Tree, but just found a 50% offer at the Amanpuri, and am now booked into pavilion 103. Now I came back to the Trisara sight and they have an oceanview suite, with free upgrade to oceanfront, daily breakfast, massage for 2 on arrival, fruit and chocolates in room daily all for $500 per day. This sounds like an amazing deal.

Gotta love these can't lose decisions.

Any thoughts?
