Great report! Since I have traveled Vietnam on 3 different years I relived my trips through your post. The places I have not been are Chaing Mai, and Hua Hin.
Yes, you would enjoy the Mekong in Vietnam getting to a native person's home as I did. Also going back into the jungle to visit a Vietnamese guy who served with our American Army in the 60ies. When you make friends there the place becomes so much more special.
Hanoi and Luang Prabang are favorite places of mine to visit.

VSP Travel is located in the Ambassador Hotel in Bangkok in the Sukumvit area.
Mol set up the Chaing Mai elephant, ox and raft ride tour for us in the past.
She also set up flights for us from BKK to Chaing Rai, Laos, Vietnam and return to BKK. The rates were reasonable.
