Dear Bob posted regarding his use of this book and called it the Treasurers & Pleasurers of Thailand so I bought it thinking it was full of places that would pleasure & treasure me and now I find it's full of shopping info and some very basic advice indeed. I'm a little disappointed!

Spygirl Aug 27th, 2004 09:30 PM

Well, you know how those shopaholics are, Lyndie, shorts or no! (smile)

Lyndie Aug 27th, 2004 09:58 PM

Spygirl-keep stirring the pot and you'll get a short-shift! Famous Aussie saying!!

rhkkmk Aug 28th, 2004 08:06 AM

lyndie---i never portrayed T&P as anything but a good reference book...it is largely about shopping, its focus...it has good hotel and restaurant guides as well....sorry if you are disappointed...i love it and will continue to suggest it as ONE of the guides people should consult...sorry if you were disappointed...ask for a refund..and DON'T WEAR SHORTS...

Lyndie Aug 28th, 2004 09:27 PM

Hi Bob- I thought T & P would have more sophisticated info than it did. I found the info very basic indeed. I guess I'm so familiar with Time Out Guides which are so up to date and offer some "hip" places to shop not just the average tourist type haunts. Good on you for recommending it if you find it good. I've burnt all my shorts and will now wear kaftans everywhere!

CFW Aug 29th, 2004 06:19 AM

Lyndie, Love your attitude and sense of humor! And your travel tips. Will look for Time Out Guides.

rhkkmk Aug 29th, 2004 10:34 AM

lyndie---never heard of time out guides...i shall look into them so i too can become trendy....it will be a stretch...

besides trendy things are no longer trendy once they have been published????

Lyndie Aug 29th, 2004 06:41 PM

CFW-My husband says I have a BAD attitude and my sense of humour is warped! Thanks for the compliments! It's a real pleasure!

Bob-touche! You surprise me with your "Faith Popcorn" knowledge of trends! Happy days to you!

rhkkmk Aug 29th, 2004 06:52 PM

lyndie---i am afraid taht i must show my age and out of touchness...what is "faith popcorn"...???

Lyndie Aug 29th, 2004 07:57 PM

Hi Bob
Faith Popcorn is an American who sets/picks trends! She is an amazing researcher and utilises a huge network of contacts to help decide e.g. the colour/design of the new Nike sports shoe or the new flavour of soft drink or the latest beer taste. She is retained by many advertising agencies and multinationals to help establish and market new products/brands etc. She is a legend in USA marketing circles. You yankees set the trends! Maybe not you (per se) but your countrymen! It was a compliment!

Gpanda Aug 30th, 2004 03:37 AM

Lyndie-please do not use the words trend and Bob in the same sentence without a negative. he's just a visitor here in oh-so-hip Massachusetts.

Lyndie Aug 30th, 2004 03:28 PM

Gpanda- Okey dokey! I will not assume Bob, is in fact, just pretending he is non-trendy when actually he IS trendy because he does not appear trendy, so to speak! I'm just ironing my final kaftan before I burn my shorts and tank tops. Life is so busy & complicated some days. Too many Cointreau & limes last night, I surmise! Bye. Wish I could make your party!

rhkkmk Aug 30th, 2004 08:30 PM

lyndie---the party was formulated as a roast to you....

rhkkmk Aug 30th, 2004 08:32 PM

the only trend setter i know in the usa is going to jail soon...the lovely martha stewart...

Lyndie Aug 30th, 2004 11:07 PM

Bob-nobody's got any(much)dirt on me here, to my knowledge, so what a boring roast it would be. I liked Martha. Seems to me she was just unlucky to get caught! Anyways, have a great time without me and have a few drinks for us Aussie fodorites. Sending you all meat pies, sausage rolls and a dozen Grange 1990 for my contribution.

I bought both guides, T&P and timeout. (As you can see Bob, I am prepared!!).
I enjoyed T&P but I agree that you need to read this book along with some regular guides for sightseeing, geography, etc.
When I bought timeout, It was OK, however, when i looked online,
http://www.timeout.com/bangkok/
I discovered that most of the info from the book which I paid money, is online!
So Bob save yourself some money and read timeout online.

btw. Martha Stewart lives in our town. Westport. I presonally think she deserved that much punishment but this is MHO.
