Traveling to Vietnam in the summer - will I survive the heat?
Hey everyone,
Sorry, not trying to be dramatic or anything but I will be traveling to Vietnam for the months of July and August and I have been told that it will be brutally hot there. I am going to be in and around Da Nang and Hue for the first month and then traveling throughout the country in August. Question is - will it be unbearably hot because I don't do that well in the heat and will it be raining a lot since it's the monsoon season?
Thanks very much for your help!

Take a look at www.weatherbase.com for datat on historical weather patterns. Check each location you plan to visit.
I don't know exactly what you mean by not doing well in the heat, but if heat really bothers you, this might not be the best time for you to go.

Thanks for your response. I've visited these sites but I guess I want anecdotal responses.
I also don't have a choice now in going in July. I was accepted into a volunteer program for that time so I'll have to be there during that time.

We were in Hanoi and Hue last May and it was oppressively hot. Maybe it was the particular day, but I found Siem Riep / Angkor to be a relief. I'd just keep hydrated, wear a hat, and take breaks. This coming from a native Texan used to the 100+ degree heat in the summer.

Hi there, I live in Hanoi, it not the heat that will bother you it is the humidity. You will need to shower twice a day, I suggest that you head north to Sapa for two days and to Halong bay for two days, being north, they are cooler.
How to deal with the humidity, drink tons of water to keep hydrated, and try to get relief during the day.

It will be really hot but if this is the only time you can go just stay hydrated. We went and it was in the high 90's. It was hot but I am glad we went. We also hired a driver so we stayed in the car when we needed to cool off. Just make sure the car has a/c.
