Travel through Tibet into Nepal
Hi there,
Can anyone help my husband and I? We really want to travel from Tibet to Nepal in the next 3 weeks. Is that at all possible and if so, do we have to buy a tour or can we do it alone? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance, Alie http://hobosinlovemedia.com |
Next 3 weeks? In December? I have no information, but just want to wish you luck. You won't find tours at this time of the year, especially with this little advance.
Some of the mountain passes may not be passable. |
You'll probably get more answers on this over on Lonely Planet's Thorntree. This site: http://www.tibettravel.info/get-to-t...p-highway.html has a good description of the route. I imagine you can hire transport in Lhasa, assuming, as rkkwan says, that the road is open, and I believe I have read about a bus. Where are you now?

Hi there,
Thanks to the two of you for your responses. We've been traveling for about 3 months and are currently in Beijing China. We understand that December is a strange time to travel in this area but are prepared for anything! We have heard such mixed stories about doing that route; either on our own and as a group. It should be interesting either way! Cheers, Alie http://hobosinlovemedia.com |
I just read in the Bangkok Posts that the bus between Nepal and Tibet has bee re-started. Sorry, I have no other info about this.

I'd suggest checking with a travel agency in Beijing. Or, if you're headed for Chengdu, the main jumping off point for Tibet, or Kunming, then do it there. They'll probably try to sell you a tour, but the right one should have the latest info on visa requirements and the state of the road.
