Travel in Cambodia/Vietnam
Hi! Hubby and I are planning a trip to Vietnam and Cambodia for end of October. What is the best route to get to Angkor Wat (Siemreap) from Saigon? We only have a total of 6 days, and plan to only spend 2-3 in Cambodia (bummer!). Options seem to be:
1. Travel fromg Saigon to Phnom Penh to Siemreap 2. Travel from Saigon north to some other Vietnam location, then over to Siemreap Also, do you suggest to fly from Siemreap to Singapore or from Phnom Penh to Singapore on our way back out of the country? MANY thanks for a quick reply, as we need to book this today! |
Don't know why you would want to go through PP if you didn't have to. I believe that Vietnam Airlines has direct flights from HCMC to Siem Reap.
Likewise, I think some Singapore carriers have direct flights to and from Siem Reap. Check out Silk Air, Tiger, and Jet Star Asia. |
don't bother with PP, just fly from Saigon to Siem Reap. Angkor Watt is fantastic, please look at my web site
www.riceforcambodia.org if you want ot visit the Green Gecko or Snagkum centre orphanage please let me know and I will arange it for you cheers Sharon |
granted, phnom penh isn't the nicest place in the world, but to miss is out would be missing out a huge part of what makes the country what it is today. Cambodia is more than just angkor!
air asia, i think do most of those flights, although you'd need bangkok air for phnom penh to siem reap |
OK, we booked the trip already. Looks like we will spend 4 days in the southern part of Viet Nam, then make the trek to PP. From there, take the boat to Siem Reap and spend 3 days in Angkor. Flying from REP to SIN to SFO.
Can't wait!!! : ) Thanks! ~Melissa |
When you say that you have booked the trip already I assume that is by a tour company. I would just make the following suggestion.
Rather than take the overpriced boat from PP to SR, the bus is a much better alternative. There are several bus companies that operate this route but the Mekong Express is by far the best. The seats are quite comfortable and there is a toilet on board. Trip takes about 5hrs (same as boat) over a fairly good road and cost $9. Just for you interest the same company runs a bus from HCMC to PP which leaves around 11am and gets in about 5pm. Cost $13. |
Yes, by all means do not take the boat. We saw the boat while we were touring Tonle Sap and Prek Toal bird sanctuary - it looked like a nightmare.
Glad you are visiting Phnom Penh. |
