Transportation from Hoi An to Hue
 

Our Hoi An hotel quotes a price of $150 + tax to drive my husband and I from Hoi An to Hue, a distance of 120 Km. Is this a fair price? If not, can anyone recommend an alternative?

I would not pay that they seem to be doubling the going
rate.Few years back paid $45 for 4 in a nice car always find it best to do this boots on the ground cut out the middlemen
to save.Nice Tourist Bus was $10-15 public bus under $3

We paid $100 last year to go from Hue to HoiAn - we also made arrangements (last minute)through our hotel, and thought the price was at least 30-40% more than it should have cost (based on what I'd read here).

In Nov 2009, we (2 people) paid $50 to go from Hoi An to Hue with a stop at China Beach (which we later forgo because of poor weather) and a stop at Hai Van pass which is somewhat longer distance. I was staying at Cai Dai hotel and had booked the car with the receptionist. Before I committ, I had double checked the price with 2 travel agents in town and they quoted more or less the same price. If I were you I would go to town ASAP to a get better price. $150 is TOTALLY outragious. Try to bargain it down to $60. $70 is the max I would pay.

Thanks, everyone. I looked at the Virtual Tourist site which offered a link to Your Local Booking.com. Their rates are much more in keeping with what I thought would be the case - $80-90 dollars. Gasoline prices may have climbed a lot since 2009.

Are you in Hoi An yet? If not, wait until you get there before booking transport.

We're there in a few weeks time, and staying in Danang for a few nights, which is close to Hoi An.
Then getting the 3rd Class wooden seat train to Hue. The scenery is [apparently] glorious, and the 3rd Class trains go slower and have the windows open, so the views are better.
After 5 nights in Hue we're getting the bus from Hue to Hoi An for a week.
But I'm not booking any of the transport before we arrive.

In Hoi An at the moment. $56 to Hue is about the going rate.

LL the third class train from Da Nang to Hue is indeed a wonderful journey with amazing views. If you are in Da Nang on a Friday or Saturday be sure to go see the fire breathing Dragon Bridge ( I think at 9.00pm).

Yep, checked that out before booking.

Staying on the river front (west side), just north of the Dragon Bridge, at the Rainbow Hotel.

Hope you're all enjoying Hoi An. We're there for a week, staying slightly out of town on Cam Nam Island

Hi LL, yes we are enjoying Hoi An, although it is VERY hot and quite busy despite it supposedly being the low season. We are just about to change hotels as our home stay was nice but too out of the way.

We did look at a place on Cam Nam, Riverside Impressions, I think, but it was nothing like the web photos and decided it was just too far away from centre and there wasn't too much going on on Cam Nam itself. In the end we found a nice new hotel with great deals called Travelodge ( no, not like the UK ones!) closer into the old town but still away from the crowds.

Oh no, I've booked 7 nights at the Riverside Impression!
Fortunately, I booked direct and haven't paid anything. So just sent an e-mail to cancel! Will look at a few others on Agoda including the Travel Lodge.

Lancaster - 7 nights sounds like an awfully long time to be in Hoi An, unless you are planning on spending a great deal of time on the beach and having clothing made. Also - 5 days in hue? We loved both destinations, but the time you have planned there seems to be a lot.

LL Just spent our first night at the Travelodge - fantastic! It is on the edge of the old town away from the crowds. It has only been open a week or so so everything is brand new ( and they have some great opening offers ( at least locally, not sure about online. We agreed a rate of $30 pn and then got upgraded to a suite - very nice. The indoor pool is and added bonus - it is VERY hot here now!

Good move on the Riverside Impression - we moved from Pham Gia "Boutique Homestay" which was nice, great breakfast, nice rooms and fast wifi but a just little too far out of town.

Dgunbung, I understand what you are saying re the time LL is spending in the two places but we are staying even longer! Like us, I think LL tends to travel for longer periods so in that context, perhaps not too much. That said, I have always preferred Hue and will probably return there next week for a few days. Also thinking about Quy Nhon which is supposed to be very pleasant.

Crellston. Thanks The location of the Travel Lodge and the indoor pool has swung it, so just booked for 7 nights B&B. Cost £136.78, so it looks like the good offer is also on Agoda [Booking.com was a bit dearer].

Dgunbung. Thanks. We'll be fine with 7 nights in Hoi An and 5 in Hue. A few people have said that Dalat hasn't got much to offer, but I found this excellent very recent blog the other day from a regular contributor on Trip Advisor....
