Transiting at Columbo Airport

We are travelling from Male,Maldives to Delhi India this fall-British Airways to Columbo, then onward with Sri Lankan to Delhi. We will have carryon only ,but due to a flight change we only have 80 minutes between flights.Do we have to clear customs to make our connection or is there a transit area?.Can we realistically make this work?Any advice would be most appreciated!

There is a transit area. Once you get off your plane, there are signs that will lead you in the right direction. NO need to go through customs

You do not have to clear IMMIGRATION if you are in transit in Colombo. (Customs does not come into play either.) If you do check bags, they will be automatically transferred for you. IMO 80 minutes is plenty of time (this assumes you depart Male on time, which should be the case with flights from Male). I have made this same connection a fiew times on Sri Lankan Air going to and from the Maldives and Delhi, never had a problem. Colombo airport is quite small as well, and connecting is easy. It is quite possible that your arrival and departure gates will be next to each other.
