Transit facilities in Bangkok

I am looking for options to overnight in BKK whilst waiting for a connecting flight, and for somewhere I can leave some luggage.

I will be arriving on Thai Intl from Shanghai at 21:15 (in June 06) and have a flight to Siem Reap with Bangkok Airways at 07:30 the next morning.

I will fly back to BKK two days later and will want to swap some clothes but leave the luggage at the airport whilst travelling in to Bangkok and then collect the luggage when flying out with Singapore Airlines.

My questions include:

Do Thai Intl and Bangkok Airways use the same International terminal?

Is it possible to stay in some kind of transit-hotel room without having to clear customs? If yes, can you access your luggage before checking in for the next flight? If not, is there a more cost-effective option than the Amari?

things may change as the new airport may be open by that time????

there are several hotels in the old airport area: comfort suites, grand miracle, rama gardens, sofitel central to name a few...

there is a facility within the airport but someone else will have to describe it and its use to you...

there is left luggage in the airport as well, but i find it quite expensive...

To answer your first question Thai uses Terminal 1 and Bangkok Air Terminal 2. Don't worry as the terminals are side by side and easy to walk between.

There are left luggage facilities in both terminals and the cost used to be 50 baht per bag per day.

There are day rooms available for passengers on the 2nd and 4th floor of Terminal 1&2 respectively, that are well furnished, comfortable, clean, air-conditioned and have a private bath. Cost is expensive though at 2100 baht (53us) per 6 hour period.

In your case I would suggest going to a hotel either around the airport or in the city. Avoid the attached Amari Airport hotel as it is just too expensive. You say you are going into Bangkok when you return from Siem Reap so why not stay at the same hotel you plan to for that night. You could also propably leave your bags there until your return.

Are the day rooms offered in BKK airport available in the evening? We are arriving at 11:30 pm and depart for Phuket at 7:00 am.

Is there an email address that can be used to book in advance? Is this necessary or is there generally availability?

Left luggage at Bangkok Airport was 70 baht per bag last time I used it, I know it has gone up since.

TravelinTracy - The rooms are available day or night. You pay by a time period 4, 6 or 8 hours. This is a couple of years old but I think the numbers are stiil good.

Dayroom 1 is located in the Terminal 1 Transit center (2nd floor Arrival Hall). Telephone (662)535-3710, FAX (662)535-3725.

Dayroom 2 is located in Terminal 2, 4th floor (take the escalator up). Telephone (662)535-3718, FAX (662)535-4324.
