I took that train trip back in the early '80's. Our departure from KL was delayed for three hours with no prior notice, the air-conditioning was on full-blast and all the passengers nearly froze to death, we arrived in Singapore at midnight instead of late afternoon, and the whole coach was crawling with cockroaches.

In spite of all that -- I had a great time!

Hello GLen,

Don't let Emily scare you. Like she said, that was in the 80's...must say she did give an apt description but that was 19 years ago!!!. Our (I'm Malaysian living in Kuala Lumpur) trains are very well maintained and comfortable now. If you buy the 1st class seat, they are like Business Class on the plane. If this is your first trip to Malaysia and would like to have more information, please feel free to post it here (pls. do not e-mail me). I'll try to answer them. June will be rather hot ~ 30-34 C so bring cotton clothings...alternatively bring lots of money to buy them here...believe me they are CHEAP. I've travelled all over the world...well almost...and no where else have I come across such cheap food and clothings. Bye and regards.

Hi Glen,

I took a train from Singapore to KL more than a year ago ang it was a nice trip. Even though we were just in the second class (first class was fully booked), the seats were wide and comfortable. In first class you can have sleeping couchettes. The travel is 6-8 hours one way.

So go! It is a different experience. But of course if I compare the train to the ones in Europe (like Thalys), I think there is no point of comparison.

Happy trip.

Hi

Thanks for the encouraging advice. I am really looking forward to the trip. I hope to be able to get a first class seat!

Where would you suggest the best sate in town is sold? I love Malaysian style sate and would love to try some really good stuff in KL.

Thanks again for the info.

Glen

Just go to Kajang in Selangor to get the best satay. I don't know how to go there.

Good luck!
