train ride delhi to agra
Need info on taking the train ride from Delhi to Agra (Taj Mahal) in September. Is it recommend to spend a night in Agra or seeing Taj Mahal be the only sight to see there. How much would it cost for the train and how safe is it?
Thanks.
Thanks.

There are lots of trains from Delhi to Agra. Check http://www.indianrail.gov.in/ for more information. They are fast, efficient and safe. Of course you need to follow the necessary precautions like you would in any country when travelling.
Definitely spend the night in Agra.

Sorry, I clicked post prematurely. I was saying definitely spend the night as it would give you the opportunity to see the Taj Mahal at dawn, a must, in my opinion. Also, you would have enough time to see other sites like the Baby Taj, Agra Fort, etc...

Yes, as Sharon says, the train is safe. Why wouldn't it be? Indian Railways carry 14 million passengers a day and maintain 62,000 kms of track!!
Time is a little under 3 hours unless you take the Shatabdi express which does it in two, or a slow train which can take 4. Price depends on the sort of class you want. But it won't break the bank even in top whack.
I would also strongly recommend staying overnight. Try and go early in the day so you can have a leisurely lunch, then check out Lal Qila (Red Fort) before visiting the Taj at dusk. Then go again at dawn.
Happy travels.

we did not feel there was that much to see and do in agra other than the taj and the baby taj, both of which could be done in 1/2....we stayed two nites for our convenience but if you have time constraints that would not be necessary...it would be a very long day however!!

We did the overnight train from Varanasi to Agra - fantastic experience and would definately recommend the train. We travelled 3AC which was perfectly safe.
Taj Mahal is breathtaking but agree that you only need 1 night there.

Definitely stay the night. The trip will be too long otherwise. Depending what season you go there may be fog day an night that will dramatically slow the train. Our 3 hour schedule turned into 5 1/2 hours. Trains are safe but even 1st class private cabins are not at all what Americans would expect. The Taj is unbelievably beautiful. We stayed 3-4 hours there. If you can afford the Amarvilas it is so so so worth it. Best place in India.
