Toyko for 2 days..Mt. Fuji?

Looking at a trip that includes Toyko for 2 days. Will I have time to go to see Mt. Fuji? How far from Toyko??

Hi

Mount Fuji is located a couple of hours outside Tokyo. There are organized trips there with e.g. Sunrise Tours. We took this and we got on the bus at like 8 am and we got back to Tokyo at 7 pm. I will post a trip report and some pictures on my homepage http://gardkarlsen.com soon :-)

Regards

I think that it is better to see Tokyo - two days is not too much, and there are a lot of things to visit there.

However, if you maybe visited Tokyo before, and now you want to make some trips, I would preffer a day trip to Nikko.

In my opinion, it is a long trip to Fuji, and just to see (if there are no clouds) it...you can use better this time.

By rail, it's about 90 minutes to Hakone Yumoto station from Shinjujku or Tokyo. I don't remember how long to get from there to a Fuji viewpoint.

You can do the tour on your own, see the Hakone free passes described here:

If you are staying in/near Shinjuku then getting a Hakone Free Pass and using the Odakyu Romance Car would make for a good day or overnight trip.

You dont have to do a tour, as it is really easy to get here by yourself (I live on the Yamanashi side of Fuji.

From the west exit of Shinjuku Station, you get a bus to Kawaguchiko (1700yen) and then from there, regular buses go halfway up Fujisan. As I look out the window it is quite hazy but definitely viewable. If you leave early enough in the morning, ie 8 or 9, you will be in the Fuji Five Lakes area by 11, lunch at the fifth station (halfway up Fuji), and back in Tokyo by 3 or 4.

A good day trip, and plenty of availability. It would pay to book the bus ticket the day before as it can be quite busy in the mornings from Shinjuku.
