I don't recommend tours in Bangkok. It is easy to get around vis skytrain and water taxi. I would suggest you visit the Grand Palace/Temple of the Emerald Buddha, Wat Po (Reclining Buddha) the Jim Thompson House, The Erawan Shrine. All are easy on your own. You can get an audio guide at the Grand Palace if you's like. I consider those must-see, but if you tell us what interests you we can give more suggestions.

these things can all be done on your own, but sometimes i like to have a driver to simplify things, as so many sites are not right at transportation sites and too much time can be wasted...

i hate organized tours as as much as 30-40% of your time can be taken visiting "tourist shopping venues" which are rip offs

Thank you this really helps, any suggestion on cultural events also how would you rate the safety of Bangkok

bkk is very safe, imo, but it is a big city so stuff can happen..

Bangkok is remarkably safe. Which doesn't mean you shouldn't take normal precautions (no $100 bills hanging out of your pockets, for instance).
