Toro for *one-hundred-five* ... I will have 4
At Ginzushi restaurant in Nagasaki I ordered maguro nigiri sushi. I added an order of toro, one-piece, and the itamae told me it cost *one-hundred-five*. It was very good and if he was warning me of the cost of the toro, 105 yen, then the maguro must be really cheap and I love this place. Had a piece of sounds like saiyoru and one kisu (good, whatever it was). And two more toro in between those. And one more toro. The waitress brought the bill and it looked funny, 7.560, but ok and I plunked down a 1000 yen note. She said no-no and finger-drew another zero on the note. I asked about the price of the toro and eventually the lady next to me translated by finger-writing on the counter 1,500. So the total bill was 7,560@yen. The Holiday Inn Nagasaki is comfortable, nice comfy queen sized bed. The 500 yen for the day-pass on the tram is good, esp. considering that you might take the wrong one once or twice. Enjoyed visiting Glover Garden quite a bit more than I expected. Nagasaki has an interesting history. There is a Confucian shrine with wonderful Chinese works of art. Had a good bowl of Nagasaki champon (Y990) for lunch at the restaurant across from the ANA hotel, below Oura church. |
That's funny (funnier because it is you and not me, Ms. Frugal). As you know, we had no sushi in Japan, not because I was afraid of $10 pieces, but because we eat so much good sushi here in N. VA that we found ourselves not seeking it out there (crazy, I know). Well, even $68.61 (current conversion is 108.106 this morning, so much better than what it was in March!) is probably not that outragous for what you got if it was really good toro. And certainly you won't forget it. Just have noodles for a few days for lunch and the extra money will be back in your pocket, sort of.
What is champon? I'll post the results of the race for you this afternoon. |
1) Afleet Alex, recovering after literally being brought to his knees by Scrappy T
2) Scrappy T 3) Giacamo Very dramatic race! |
wow! when i saw the title of your thread, i, like emd, thought, you get all the good deals. 105y for toro? jyu ni onigai shimasu.
but, of course, if its sounds too good to be true, its ......... if i counted corretly, you had eight pieces of sushi for 7560y. well, not bad, must have been good. waiting to hear more of your adventures. ja... |
sorry to hear that, but everyone should know by now that there are no bargains in Japan, you're kidding yourself if you think there are...well, other than tabakoh at $2!!!
