tokyo or kyoto restaurant
We are leaving for Japan next week and would love some suggestions for a fine sukiyaki restaurant in either Tokyo or Kyoto. We haven't been to Japan in a couple of years and would value this board's know-how.Thanks a lot for your help

Imahan in Asakusa is the oldest sukiyaki restaurant. Set menu lunch is much cheaper than a la carte dinner.
http://www.asakusaimahan.co.jp Do you have any preference for which area of tokyo? I think they have a few branches--one in Takashimaya Department Store in Shinjuku. |
We will be staying in the ginza area of Tokyo, but we will be visiting Asakusa.Any other suggestions?
Thanks so much. |
Dunno if this is a good guide or not, but my PA/translator in tokyo office seems to be using this site.

Since I assume you will be going through JR Kyoto Station, you could try Moritaya, which is on the 11th floor of Isetan, a department store in the station. They specialize in Sukiyaki and Shabu Shabu, and the meat comes from the restaurantīs own farm. We had the sukiyaki, which they cook for you at your table. You have a choice of 4 grades of beef. Even though we chose the lowest level because we were on a budget, the beef was of excellent quality.
