Tokyo one day train pass?

There are so many different lines, and a one day pass sounds great, but is there one specific pass that we should get to see 'different neighborhoods' and sights? We want to go to the Mori tower and gov't. bldgs and to Yamanote line loop, Odaiba and Akihabara. I guess what I really want to know is - how can I tell which line will be the 'one' or would that be too easy?? Do they overlap? the passes aren't overlapping, are they???

You actually do not need a pass of any sort to get around Tokyo. Sometimes you will use the JR train system and sometimes the subway. There are different passes for both systems. There are also some private lines but you will probably not use them. Cost wise for one day I would just buy tickets as you need them.

I can understand your confusion. Use this site for a better idea of the sites and how to get around.

By govt buildings do you mean the Metropolitan Government Offices? There is an observation deck pretty high up which is free as compared to Roppongi Hills and Tokyo tower.

Dear daryleann,

I'm living in Tokyo, and can suggest you
the best way to do.
Firstly I need to know which hotel you'll stay at.

Waiting for your reply

cigdem: Actually we won't be in a hotel - cruise ship overnights - at The Harumi Passenger Terminal in Tokyo.
As to the towers, we may try to do a couple of them - different views. We try to hit the tallest points in al the places we visit. And FREE definitely has a pull!
Thanks for the info on the passes. Guess we will just go wherever we end up and not try to stay with a particular 'line.'

daryleann,
If you stay at Harumi Pier,
you can buy one-day pass for subways.
It costs JPY700.
But I guess you'll use JR lines such as
Yamanote line besides subways, and this card is invalid for JR lines.
Therefore, if you'll not use subways heaviliy, I don't see any necessary for one-day pass.

Happy travels!
