Tokyo map advice - Shinagawa

I thought that buying a Globetrotter Travel Map of Japan with the inset map of Central Tokyo would be sufficient for some basic planning. But it turns out that Haneda Airport and the area where I will be staying, Shinagawa, are off the map.

Looking around Amazon.com, even Tokyo-specific maps tend to leave off this area.

Can anyone suggest a specific map to buy? I'm not doing well with the on-line download maps either.

The best English-language map of Tokyo - by far - is the Tokyo City Atlas: A Bilingual Guide. It's paperbound, has maps of all major areas of Tokyo as well as subway and rail lines.

I second that recommendation! It's a great book. I got mine on Amazon.com.

I have The New Tokyo Bilingual Pocket Atlas which is different than the one mentioned by the posters above - it does not have the greatest maps though. What I find very helpful is the website diddlefinger.com. You can input a Japanese address in English if you have all the specifics and then it comes up with a great street map. I use them when I want to go to a particular area or the neighborhood around a hotel, etc. But you do need a street address.

Thanks. I saw recommendations for the Tokkyo City Atlas, but the latest edition was printed in December 2004.

And besides, I won't be spending a lot of time in Tokyo - I just need a basic map that includes Haneda Airport and Shinagawa.

I'll try diddlefinger.com
