Tokyo manga or anime school

My daughter wants to spend some time in Tokyo next year to study manga & anime. I plan to go with her for part of her stay. Does anyone know how I can go about doing this? I need to find an art school or tutor, and also find housing for 1 to 3 months. Should I just leave it up to friends in Tokyo to do this, or can I research this myself? I can speak the language fairly ok (enough to converse), but cannot read or write the complex kanji. Help!

offlady: I think you might do better with this question on another forum. Try www.japan-guide.com and click on the forum. You can search there for prior posts on manga and anime and even type in "school" after those words to see what comes up. Have you seen the really good anime and manga site that has been going and updated since 1994 by the MIT student? Check it out at www.mit.edu/people/rei/anime.html
He may have info on there on schools in Japan. I know he has info and notes on presentations by several Japanese anime producers who have come to speak to MIT graphic arts students in recent years and those might have hints on how to study this area in Japan.

Thanks a lot for the info. It's a big help.

Offlady: Also, I just found www.popjapantravel.com
It is a company that offers anime and manga tours of Japan. I can do the anime and manga items they do on my own, but you may want to click on their "forum" link on their homepage. It takes you to a forum where there are threads on manga and anime schools and instruction, and help for new anime/manga artists in Japan.

Wow, I had no idea that there are manga tours in Japan. I too wouldn't need a tour guide fo the most part; however, it appears that I do need to go through pop japan travel to do the anime studio tour. I'll have to check and see if I can do that ala carte. Thanks again.
