Tokyo-Kyoto Train

We propose to travel from Tokyo to Kyoto by SHINKANSEN. Is it OK to buy the tickets in Japan or is there a big advantage in buying off shore?

Ditto Kyoto to Nagano.

Thanks in advance.

Unless you are travelling on an especially heavy travel day or absolutely must travel on a particular train, you could buy the tickets at the train station a couple of hours or so before boarding. There are several trains between Tokyo and Kyoto each day, about one an hour.
