Tokyo in July
Hi,
We are thinking of stopping over in Tokyo for 5 days on our way to India from San Francisco. We have kids aged 7 and 3. What would be the must see, must do things that we can do in that time? How hot would it be there in early July? Thanks !! Ciny |
Hi
When it comes to weather you should check out www.weatherbase.com :-) My wife and I went to Japan last year. I have posted a trip report with pictures and links on my homepage http://gardkarlsen.com/japan_tokyo.htm . Maybe you can find some useful info there. Early July is Tanabata festival.
http://gojapan.about.com/cs/japanese...a/tanabata.htm It is not necessarily "hot" in July but is very "muggy". But it is not as bad as in India. San Francisco weather is heavenly compared to TOkyo in July. |
Hi Ciny,
My husband & I live in Tokyo, & while we don't have any children, we do have friends with them. What types of activities are you thinking? What do they like to do? July will be South California hot (though not as hot as India!) and very, very muggy. As in, I actually keep a handkerchief in my purse to wipe off the "glow". Let me give you a few sites that I like: - http://metropolis.japantoday.com Metropolis Magazine, lost of listing of activities, updated weekly - http://tokyopocketguide.com/ Site for one of those free flyers... good overview of the major sites - http://www.jnto.go.jp/eng/index.html Government's tourist site. Check the "Yokoso" link for season suggestions. - http://www.jtbgmt.com/sunrisetour/ Sunrise Tour has half-day & day-long bus tours (think AC-transportation to places you would go anyway). The all-day trip was a hit with our mothers. With 5 days, you can spend 1 day on a tour seeing the city & doing a tea ceremony, another shopping & visiting shrines, perhaps a third on a day trip outside of the city (I recommend Nikko, as it's in the mountains & cool), a day at Ueno Park/Ueno Zoo, which also has a little kids' amusement park out front, and perhaps visit a museum or aquarium another day... maybe not in this order? Also consider that your kids will be pretty jet-lagged, so may want to take it easy the first couple of days you are here. Post back here if you have questions, or feel free to email me at my screen name @ yahoo.com. Stephanie |
Sorry, got a chance to check this site again only today. Thank you so much for all the wonderful advice.
