Tokyo Hotel Location
 

I'll be in Tokyo for 5 days in October and would like a recommendation as to which neighborhood to stay in.. I am looking at the Westin near the Yebisu Garden Place or the Aloft or the AC in the Ginza. I'd like to be centrally located as I'll be doing touristy things, near good dining and transportation. I'll be flying in and out of Heneda airport - so easy connections to/from there.

AC and Aloft are as central as you can be. 5 minute walk to the heart of the Ginza district, 5 minutes to the Ginza and Higashi Ginza stations, maybe 10 minute walk to the Tsukiji outer market area. Near world class shopping with hundreds of restaurants from Michelin starred to the humblest noodle shop.

The Westin is near Ebisu, a quieter, less hectic area of Tokyo. Only a stop away on the Yamanote line at Ebisu station from Shibuya and the famous scramble intersection. A few stops from Shinjuku and Ikebukuro, so easy access to much busier areas. The Hibiya subway line will take you to Roppongi, Ginza and Tsukiji.

I have stayed at the Westin 4 or 5 times. Last about 2018. It’s a very nice hotel with large rooms for Tokyo and about a 25 min walk to the train or subway. Nice breakfast. There was a Department store across the street with a nice food section but I have heard that it closed. It has gotten expensive. Last I stayed there is was about $350 a night. Now I am seeing rates over $600. Do like the hotel

I ended up staying at the Westin because I really wanted the papering of a full service hotel after hiking/biking/kayaking for the previous 12 days. I loved the location - a quick 10 minute walk to Ebisu Station - all within a covered walkway - made it easy not to get lost! I am glad I didn't stay in the business of the Ginza. Lots of food choices right in the area. Went to the spa for a good massage. The lounge services for breakfast and snacks was really great.

Will be staying there at the Westin Tokyo again in November. Using points as daily costs seem to vary between about $500 to $675 for my dates and I need 2 rooms. You are correct that it's like 10-15 minutes to the train or subway. How is the renovation going? Also heard they closed the lounge and there is a makeshift lounge. I take it the Lounge was ok?

Several years ago, the concierge at that Westn recommended a sushi restaurant near Ebisu station. i have returned to that restaurant a few times but not that fab hotel. Planning to go back in a couple of weeks. Will have the umeshu again like last November and know how to order it this time "umeshu rokkusu" (Japanese plum wine on rocks)

The renovation is still in progress bur you wouldn't know it. For happy hour, they have it on the second floor lounge and for breakfast, you just eat in the restaurant - the full buffet. It was really nice.

Origami Kaikan was a highlight for me. It is a museum, shop and depending on when you go, you can take an origami class! I was there on the weekend, and the director, an older gentlemen, was doing an origami demonstration and giving out models he made. He has been teaching origami over 30 years and have given demonstrations all over the world. It was really wonderful. The models on display were just amazing! I spent over 1.5 hours there. Well worth the trip!
