Tokyo Hotel

patriciatbrogan ONLINE 2 minutes ago Hello, further to exploratory posts about costs etc about a month ago on here prior to now really getting down to properly planning our 3 week holiday in Japan October/ November later this year, I am now back on here and have been looking a bit on the hotel websites: we can get a Superior Queen room at Hotel Mystays Premier Akasaka for about £90 per night (including taxes and fees) - any thoughts? The hotel seems to have good reviews on tripadvisor etc, it is a new hotel, of course small rooms, as we are 2 females we would prefer 2 beds (twins) but that is much more expensive so we have plumped for the relatively cheaper Queen double which hopefully will be bigger than a double. Also thoughts on the Akasaka area (the hotel is near to a station I believe)? We are staying 4 nights arriving on a Sunday. |
Sorry - we are considering (rather than have plumped for)!

I would shop around some more for a twin before even considering sharing the queen. The twin is worth more. It has more space and more bed.
Twin: Room Size: 23m2 Bed Size: 1100mm Queen: Room Size: 17m2 Bed Size: 1600mm Double: Room Size: 16m2 Bed Size: 1400mm |
If the queen room is worth £90 then I would say that the twin is worth £120.
For one night, Nov 2, for two: ¥14,259 superior queen NS ¥17,130 superior twin NS The twin is worth the difference, but the issue is affordability to you. |
What about near Sugamo Station (Toshima) - we can get a twin for 4 nights for 370 Euro at APA Hotel Sugamo Ekimae?
|
You are looking at two completely different areas - how important is location to you? Akasaka is very central - very good transport links and you can walk (should you care to) to Roppongi, the Imperial Palace, Ginza, Aoyama. Sugamo is north of the central area -
near Rikugien (garden) and one of my favourite street markets (the 'Granny's Harajuku' - on 'death days', ie 4, 14, 24). There is an APA near Akasaka Mitsuke station (perhaps one of the best for connectivity in the city) - have you checked their rates? |

Daft location for tourists. You're 1/3 of the way across Tokyo from Ueno, nearly 1/2 way across town from Shinjuku, Ginza, etc. and a far cry from Asakusa. |
It seems that you are shopping by price, not location. Ok. You found a twin that is within your budget. APA is fine for the price. That APA is right at JR Sugamo station, which is convenient. 11 minutes to Ueno, 22 minutes to Asakusa (with transfer), or 15 min to Shinjuku.
Is Asakusa your choice for location? Did you search by location? Why are you giving price in EUR and GBP? Its a tradeoff of time vs money. Saving money by spending time to get to a location instead of spending money to stay in a location to save time. |
Just want to say thank you all for your suggestions and advice to me on finding a hotel in Tokyo - in the end we booked a twin at a Tokyu hotel - pretty good reviews and a 15 minute walk from Shinjuku Station. Thanks again!
