Tokyo 'hood map

I am planning a Sep '08 trip to Japan. I am trying to find hotels in neighborhoods/sections that we would want to be in but I'm completely confused about all the different neighborhoods in Tokyo. At this rate, it could be a Sep '09 trip! lol

There is a Tokyo City Atlas book that looks quite good but the most up to date version is from 2004. Does this seem too out of date? Where else can I find more about the 'hoods? I'm looking not only for descriptions but also what sites are in which area. Perhaps I'm searching incorrectly but I couldn't find anything complete online.

also, as far as purchasing a map that includes attractions and sites on it, the best one I have found is the laminated Streetwise Tokyo map. I used it on my last trip and it was very good.

Some neighborhoods you can start off with are Shinjuku, Harajuku, Tokyo, Shibuya, and Ropongi.
I personally would get a more up to date book. But I find there's really not alot of good books on Tokyo out there. I also suggest a metro map so you can get around.

The Streetwise map has a separate metro/rail map on it, and IIRC it also superimposes the metro on the map of Tokyo (not easy, the metro map is a spider's web in Tokyo, so many different lines owned by so many diff. companies)

Just two - Tokyo Metro and Tokyo Municipal (Toei).
