Tokyo Bananas Expiring

We purchased some Tokyo Banana cakes with banana filling at the Tokyo Airport. They have an expiration date of May 20th, but we are planning on giving them as gifts to some family member on May 23rd.

Has anyone ever purchased Tokyo Bananas? Do you know if they will still be good after the expiration date?

Thanks!

Never tasted it but looks nice.

I found the following sort of blog in Japanese. The authour says " 3 weeks after the experation date, the cake is still good, tastes even better ".

You could have kept it in the fridge (did you?).

Just for 3 days, I would not worry if I eat it myself. If giving it to somebody, I might hesitate but then again it's only 3 days. Those expiration dates in Japan are usually unnecessarily short.

Japanese manufacturers are terribly conservative with shelf life of their products. Many say they have to be eaten on the day of purchase, but normally they are perfectly edible for a few more days. They also say they have to be kept refrigerated. The reason for this is to do with the extreme heat and humidity that can exist in Japan, and as they have no control over how their products are handled or stored after they are bought, they cover themselves by giving them very short shelf life.
