It's very hard for a foreigner to rent in Japan (there are a lot of threads on www.japan-guide.com on that topic).

There are a few places on vrbo.com, but they are not cheap for that length of time, as they go by the wk., not the month.

Try the Oakwood apartments at Roppongi formerly know as Mansions

Do a google search on Tokyo gaijin house and you'll get lots of places that offer inexpensive rooms on a weekly or monthly basis. If you are looking to spend a bit more and stay a bit nicer, then try serviced apartments.

There are also "weekly mansion" where you pay by the weeks, plus some deposits. I never stayed there, but most seems to be in residential areas and have tiny rooms reputedly.

It will be helpful if you can define what you consider "affordable".

i'm going to Japan in April. I will visit Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka. I will travel by train (shinkansen)and I was wondering if it is better to have the famous JAPAN RAIL PASS or not.

I'm a little confused on what kind of trains the JAPAN RAIL PASS covers

KimJapan Feb 5th, 2008 11:26 PM

Whether a JR pass is for you depends on where you are going and how long your stay in Japan is.

http://www.japanrailpass.net/ is pretty thorough.

Check fares and schedule on www.hyperdia.com. If you buy ticket, you pay the total...not just fare, but fare plus all charges for speed and niceness of train.
