Good articles on Phuket 4 months after the Tsunami, the new Ranchamanka Hotel in Chiang Mai, as well as Cambodia, Viet Nam, Sri Lanka, Singapore, China and Asian discount airlines - All on the NY Times website as well.

Thanks Craig I was just debating whether to run down and get the Times...this makes it an easy decision as I was looking at Ranchamanka on the web yesterday and we're still deciding on our Phuket or Krabi hotel!

Welltraveled,
We stayed at Rachamanka in Chiang Mai at the end of January and it was lovely. Very serene and elegant in a low-key way. We got much better rates than the Times has quoted by using www.r24.org/huahin.20m.com. or asiahotels.com -- can't remember which one.

I couldn't get into the Phuket report online so only saw the Chiang Mai one. One point I noticed was the reporter saying that although close to China that Chinese travellers had not discovered Chiang Mai, in fact Chiang Mai is one of 'the' most popular destinations for travellers from China, HK and Taipei. We have to I suppose remember these people fly in and out and just write up what they see at that moment or what people tell them.
