Thai Airways have cancelled several London to Bangkok flights.
Even the most optomistic commentators now predict some flood waters to encroach on central Bangkok but where, when and how much is still anyones guess.
Overworked pumps keep breaking down that are being used at the "last" line of defense.

Me three. I am really just trying to get information on Thailand for our trip next month. I am a frequent Asia member and am not used to seeing this type of dialogue.
I really appreciate all the information here to help those of us who are trying to make plans. My feeling is that any contribution is good no matter who it is from. I love this forum and it has helped me countless times over the past few years and I am feeling very 'turned off' it right now I am afraid.

Focus your thoughts to Samui. Only a separate unforeseen tragedy will cause any issue there.
if the situation gets any worse in Bangkok, other options will present themselves to you. Look towards your trip with excitement, not dread. Take inspiration from your user name. You will be doing something positive towards the recovery of Thailand by just being there but if you would like to do more, take the advice of others here and support the efforts of the Red Cross.
Thank you for following this thread despite my poor behavior . I will try to add anything that I deem to be useful.

Spookily when i was looking for LHR to bkk flights for later in December, some had opened up on my usual favoured airline EVA, which had previously been sold out or VERY expensive for biz class seats for that time of year. Sadly I fear people are cancelling their flights. I understand why and we are in two minds to travel to Thailand as we really wouldn't want to be a burden to an already streteched country .

My thoughts, and let me clarify, this is MY opinion, based on who I have spoken to that are currently in, or have just come back, is that they will welcome you.
I know that others think differently and they may well be correct.
There has been a massive attempt to spare the airport, CBD and tourist zone, which may have prolonged the suffering elsewhere. This desperation is partly due to the authorities wanting to limit the bleeding to prospective overseas arrivals, both for business and tourism reasons.
It is very valid to think of cancelling your trip for personal safety, but even if you avoid Bangkok completely, please reconsider doing so for the reasons of stretching resources. Many "material" resources will be shipped in from elsewhere and the "human" resources will require the income generated by tourism in order to rebuild. As far as "health" resouces, you could consider bringing a suitcase full of bandages or something similar and donote them to the RED CROSS, who may be considering a deposit point at the airport. This now empty suitcase will be very handy for all the shopping.

I think that the "right" thing to do is a grey area, and there is much emotion attached, hence the bickering. The bottom line IMO, is that no-one is "wrong". I hope that you both, and others, will continue to post as it's very helpful to those of us who are planning on visiting Bangkok in the near future.
I've decided that it's worth muddling through these emotion-ridden threads, (LOL!), to glean intelligent information and varied opinions. Please keep posting, y'all!

I tell you what. I will email the moderators and ask them to delete all my off-topic posts and I would ask others to do the same.
That way some of the very informative posts, like KW's, wont get lost or have to be re-hashed.

The tide peaks at 3.56m tommorow morning (Sunday) at 9.45am. This is not as high as last fortnight but still may be "the momment of truth" as drainage will become more difficult against this rise.
It get progressively lower after that for the next 7 day period.
11 of the Northern districts have receeding levels of water and Bangkoks governor is claiming that the main roads will be dry in 2 weeks.
Central Plaza in Pinklao is getting ready to open its doors on Monday.
Bhumibhol Dam is about to release another 26 million cubic litres of water. Is that wise?

The Australian "Socceroo's" have arrived in Bangkok for their World Cup qualification game vs Thailand on Tuesday.
The game has been moved from Rajamangala Stadium as it is occupied as a Flood Relief Centre and will instead take place at Suphachalasai Stadium near the central shopping district.
The Australian Football Federation and FIFA must be confident that there is no short term flooding threat in the area.
