I am "Happy" to report that France is sending over some cots and a few generators. Maybe they could throw in a few bottles of wine and some cheese.
I have heard reports that some of the poorest countries are pledging far greater help then what we are seeing from France. I salute those third world countries that are stepping forward with real help- they have their own challenges at home and can ill afford it but they have stepped up.

No sir it is France that has a long history here of things that they should be ashamed of. Not the people but the government.

The Singapor Air Force has given immediate assistance in the form of 3 Chinooks who are assisting in the transporation of supplies and other sorties. I'm sure more help is on the way.

What was reported in the news was that a lot of aid is held up due to red tape.

I think time and care must be taken in the acceptance, distribution and managing of aid as there's many priorities in so many areas and with so many differing needs. It's not easy given the scope of the problems.

Pity that someone always has to add a sour, whiney note to these threads.

BillT, if you think your own government has never done, and is not now doing, things you should be ashamed of, you're living in Fantasyland. As Hamlet said, "use every man after his desert, and who should 'scape whipping?"

And drawing a line between a government and people in a parliamentary democracy gets you only so far.

Rather than complaining about France let's worry about what our own government is doing to help the victims. And let's remember how miniscule an amount America initially offered after the tsunami.

Here's what thailand has offered thus far:
Thailand's Foreign Minister Kantathi Suphamongkon said his Southeast Asian country would send 60 doctors and nurses and a shipment of rice for hurricane victims.

The assistance is a "gesture from the heart," Kantathi said. He said Thailand remembers the help it received from the US after last year's tsunami that left 228,000 dead or missing across 11 Indian Ocean countries, including more than 8,000 in Thailand

France may also be heloing threw N.A.T.O. ....

anyways why do so many people care what the heck France does. I get the feeling that these people will find nothing wrong with the state department not exepting 1.100 doctors and 25 tons of medacine from "EVIL" Cuba. And these folk will not care that "EVIL" Iran offered aid to the US (threw the Red Cressent. but Rice has not accepted that offer either...

I personaly kind of feel bad for Iran since we helped them out greatly durring the earthquake in BAM Iran. now they try too give us a hand and we just swipe it away..

Anyways. you better believe that many Americans will forget the peacefull gestures from out enamies and go back to thier confortable agresive stance.

DAMN we could of had a nano second of world peace after this disaster but NO. small minded political thinking blew that up..

NO. im not a peose-nick liboral..

ColdS-charitable gifts are given unconditionally. There is no quid pro quo attached to true charity. However, I do believe that Kharma can operate geopolitically.
