Tidal Wave

Does anyone know if Hau Hin is affected

Hanuman Dec 26th, 2004 05:46 AM

Hua Hin is on the gulf of Thailand side and that whole area is not affected. Only the Andaman sea side, or western coast was affected.

The Gulf of Thailand not affected at all, Jomtien/Pattaya/Hua Hin etc fine, all other areas ok. CNN and BBC World carrying full coverage, naturally full coverage on Thai TV.
This is such a terrible tragedy. I lived for many years in Patong Beach itself, fortunately we have been able to speak to our friends and all are safe.

JamesA, So glad your friends are all safe. What a terrible tragedy for Thailand and the Thai people. Please continue to keep us posted as it is difficult to get detailed news here.

My wife watches the Thai TV whilst I check CNN, had calls from friends in Patong who are fine, apparently the waves reached up to Rat-U-Thit (2nd Road ) but they say that once beyond the 'point of impact' everything is normal, areas that were covered by the waves suffered the damage but any groud higher absolutely no damage, electricty down etc etc. A friends house at Rawai on the other side of the island had about knee high water but as shown on CNN etc the water quickly receeded. Phi Phi by goegraphical nature got heavily hit and so did Krabi area, little said about Koh Lanta but Khao Lak and Rayong area also suffered.
It appears the Nicobar Islands and North Aceh where from both little or no communications may have suffered wrose.

James-How about all of the persons on the morning tour boats going out to the islands? I imagine all of the stores and restaurants in Patong were devastated as they are on the water.
