i have been to thailand the last two years in may/june....i found this for some reason to be the most expensive time of the year from usa....i found the fares to be always in excess of $1200 and my northwest fare was quoted at $1445.....i started in the summer before and it never changed much....don't wait too long as prices rise when there are less seats....

Probably. Cathay Pacific's fares are about the same for that time. You might want to check them as well.
Have you looked at any consolidator websites?
Also, if you live in LA where there's a huge Thai community, you might check out some of the Thai travel agents in Hollywood. They often have great rates.

I am also looking for tickets to Bangkok (for me from Los Angeles). I stumbled upon a website www.thaifly.com and found some pretty good rates. The cheapest is 940.00 from LAX... I have never used this site. Has anyone else? Thoughts?

I found tickets from LAX to BKK for those dates at $798.93 on www.airgorilla.com. I have used this site before and I haven't had any problems.

For the L.A. people, what are the cancellation policies on those tickets? I know that tickets from L.A. can be cheap since so many Thais and others of us in L.A. fly back and forth to Bangkok so much. Star Tours (323)383-6360 on Hollywood Blvd at Normandy, upstairs in the HYE Plaza, is a place that a lot of folks I know go to to buy their L.A.-Bangkok tickets. I've been to the agency, but haven't purchased a ticket from it as of yet. They have a $75.00 cancellation fee to them and a $75.00 cancellation fee to Thai Air. Thai Air has just the $75.00 cancellation fee to them if bought directly from them. I tend to just go directly to the Thai Air office in L.A. and buy a ticket. Once I had to cancel, a couple of weeks before departure, and it was done right over the phone and my credit card was immediately credited, minus the $75.00. I didn't even have to mail the ticket back to them. The airfare I got was a decent one, with that ticket, and the hassle-free cancellation system was great. I wish the American airlines had the same policy...instead of usually getting stuck with a $200. change-of-departure date fee and being stuck with having to use the ticket... up to a year of the original booking...a REAL headache.That's why I try to stick with the Asian airlines...unless I'm using frequent flyer miles. For my upcoming trip I bought my tix on Cathay Pacific's website using their "Deal of the Month" but I remember noting their change/cancelation was only $100 up to day of departure.
Yes, there do tend to be cheaper tickets in LA, but summer is just awful no matter where you buy. That's why I haven't been to Vietnam yet. I can't find "decent" tickets (meaning airlines I like) for less than $1300 each to Hanoi in the summer!

December/January is the other expensive airline time. That's when I go...along with August...which is why I save my frequent flyer miles to use for either the Dec/Jan trip or the August trip. Pay for one trip...fly one trip for free. I use my miles very wisely. This August I'll be on a frequent flyer mile award. Happy Travels!
