Tibet and Nepal in 2 weeks?

Do you think it's possible to see Tibet and Nepal (just the highlights) in 2 weeks? Keep in mind I would be coming from the western US so we will lose 1.5 days each way.

Some background: I have always wanted to visit both countries before having kids but like most Americans, I have limited vacation days so 2 weeks is really the max I can do. :( I also thought about going after I retire but prefer to travel to these countries when I am young and able.

However, do you think it's too ambitious to visit both countries in 2 weeks? If so, do you have suggestions for an itinerary? Thanks in advance!

hi, I think it will be totally enough for travel tibet and nepal. you can fly to tibet first and spend 4-5 days in lahsa and also can tour the small town around lahsa during the time. As for nepal, I think you just need take another fly there and spend the rest of holiday.

Yeah, 12 days should be enough if you plan accordingly. As Grady suggests, fly to Tibet first.

Just came back from Tibet and Nepal, and did it all overland including Everest Base Camp. (I arrived into Lhasa by train from Chengdu, China and walked across the border into Nepal where I joined some people in a taxi to Kathmandu). Two weeks is definitely sufficient for the highlights. Suggest you start walking up every staircase you can find as many of the monesteries include endless steps (I believe the Potala Palace in Lhasa has over 1000) or are up a mountain. Also get your muscles in shape for squatting as the majority of toilets outside of hotels are Asian squats. Carry plenty of toilet paper and hand sanitizer. I agree it is better to do these countries whilst you are young as your muscles (if they are like mine) will be reminding you of every stair climbed that day.

It depends, how deep you want to visit in Tibet. If it's just Lhasa, then 3 days should be enough. However as there's no directly flight into Lhasa, Tibet, you will have to change flight in Chengdu. You may consider visiting some other cities in China, where you will have to stop over for changing flight anyway, like Beijing, Chengdu.

Be aware, you will also need Travel Permit to Tibet, in addition to tourist visa to China.

Honestly, 2 weeks seems a little rush, normally it's the minimum time to see China only, including Lhasa, Tibet.

World nomad......what agency did you use to book your trip to Tibet and were you happy with the service you recieved? We are in the process of planning for next July. Thanks

This is an old question so I am not sure if you already made that tour to Nepal and Tibet, in case if you haven't then here is my thought.

It depends, and you are not too ambitious, not really that big..
14 days of vacation - 3 days of traveling = You have 11 days.

If you want to go trekking you will probably need more time. But if you want to have just short hike, cultural tour, sightseeing in Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan, and Lumbini , then you might cover 14 days including the Tibet tour.

If you go to Everest Base Camp Kala Pattar Trek then it will take 14 days overall. And if you want a short trek then
Panchase Trekking in 7-8 days is good. The Ghorepani Poonhill Trekking is one of the most popular short trek can be done in 8 days too. You can start the journey from Tibet to Nepal or other way around. I would suggest Tibet to Nepal will be really good.

But in my honest opinion, 3 weeks will be fantastic.

Anyways, cheers to your vacation plan and good luck!
Thank you
