Tibet

Am going to Chengdu the end of next week, are we too late at contacting a travel agent and getting a tour to Lhasa. We just want a 4 or 5 day tour. What is a good agent in Chengdu to contact? Thanks

Hi,

Try to contact with the Chengdu Trafic Hotel. Seems that it provides traval service to Lasa. Many foreign backpackers choose to stay there. (http://www.traffichotel.com/english/main.asp ......"The reception of foreign travelers is the speicial business of this hotel. It offers the highest quality services at low price .It has been know widely by foreign travelers for more than 10 years and enjoys a good name of `The paradise of the traveler with back-pack' .)

I am a local and live near the hotel, I once worked in Lasa ten years ago, and now working at Sichuan University which is not far away from the hotel.

Hope the information is helpful, and if you need any assistance when you come, I will be willing to help if I have time.

Yes, the travel agent just inside the side door to the Traffic Hotel is the place to go to get tickets. We were very pleased with their services last year.

The agency we used last year was Sichuan De Bao and their telephone number is 028-8-5555066. I think you can just sort things out when you arrive. There are daily flights to Lhasa from Chengdu. Every travel agency in town offers packages to Tibet. The streets of Chengdu are peppered with leaflets offering these trips.

Chengdu is a hugh city. The international airport is on the south side of the city. On the north, a good hotel specializing in Tibet is the Tibet Hotel. It is a 4 star, good dining, not expensive, with a travel agency that can arrange travel permits, plane tickets, and Lhasa or Lasa (as the Chinese spell it) hotel in one day. They will pick you up at airport if requested. A travel agency away from a hotel would probably be cheaper, but we wanted the help of an English-speaking person at the front desk. Don't miss the Panda Breeding Institute or the Folkart performance in the evening. It was great fun.

We went on our own, without a tour and everything was fine and cheap.

Can we expect that you will return to this board and post the results of your trip as a reply here so others may learn from your experience? ((F))
