Tianjin port to Beijing hotel

The Peninsula Hotel quoted me approx $775.00 (US) for a car from the port to their hotel. That seems way, way, way too high. Any suggestions for a limo or van service to go from the port to the hotel?

Those prices sound ridiculous. Of course, you could always take the train.

Those prices do sound absolutely ridiculous. Xiaolan - you should be ashamed of yourself! (And stop advertising on this forum!) Would the train be terribly inconvenient for you?

Actually we love train travel in foreign cities. Is the train convenient? Can I assume a taxi to the Tianjin train station and then a taxi from the Beijing station to the hotel?

That's a great idea if it is possible.

My guess is these train schedules may not be on the internet... but looking in a guide book I see that trains leave Tianjin Main Station for Beijing Station regularly and that the journey only takes 90 minutes. And yes, I would take a taxi to/from the train station.

P.S. Tickets only cost 30-35 RMB - that's about US $4.00!!! Quite a savings!

I thought that the only Chinese rail schedules on line were in Chinese, but checking http://seat61.com/China.htm I found a link to http://www.chinahighlights.com/china-trains/index.htm which will let you input Tianjin and Beijing to pull up the timetable you need. There seem to be enough trains you shouldn't need to buy your ticket ahead of time, but if you want to try that seat61.com also has some links to Chinese travel agencies, and there's always CITS. Have a great trip! That $775 should buy an awful lot of good food.
