Thinking about a Vietnam trip in June
 

Hanoi, Halong, Hue, Hoi An, Nha Trang & then Ho Chi Minh
anyone know how the weather will be in these parts during June? Also, anyone heard of or used ANZ Travel? THANKS!!

The weather will be hot, very humid, and you will likely get heavy downpours in the afternoon. Nothing to stop you from traveling, but bring an umbrella and disposable rain ponchos.

We traveled to VN in May. While we live in Florida, the heat and humidity was like nothing we could imagine and one must really slow down while traveling in VN. Plan to spend extended periods in your hotel room or by the pool during mid-day. That being said, we loved the trip to VN.

The heat and humidity is something to think about. But Vietnam is really easy and you can DIY. The front desk people can book tours, drivers, cooking schools, restaurants, anything you want. Unless you are very particular with the type of accomodation and services, I would go with the flow.

VN is very easily managed on your own. There is non need to hire a tour company. If you want day tours once you are there, they are easy to find.

Check each place you want to visit, as, due to topography, different areas of VN are impacted by different weather systems.

As others have said, there is no need for a tour. Some people find that the local companies can get better hotel prices for them. If you want to hire a guide for a day or for some specific place, it is easy to do on the spot. But I highly recommend that you not arrange for a guide for your whole stay. You want time to wander on your own without a guide taking you to places to shop (where the guide gets a big kickback).

It is true that we are independent travelers (to be honest, we shun tours). That said, we found in making our plans for Vietnam that the tourism infrastructure in Vietnam is thoroughly modern. As long as you have email, you can make your plans yourself. Every email we sent to a hotel, travel agent (we did use a travel agent in Vietnam to make a few hotel reservations because they offered a slightly better rate), and anyone else in the tourist industry (motorbike adventure companies, companies offering trips to Halong Bay and the like) was answered extremely promptly (within 24 hours in most cases -- and if I wrote at night my time, usually the answer came within a couple of hours, which is morning Vietnam time).

Then, once there, there is simply no need for a tour guide or tour bus. Your hotel can call you a taxi, or you can walk, everywhere that tourists would generally go. With some exceptions, you can make plans for "things to do" as the spirit moves you (exceptions: if you want one of the higher-end boats on Halong Bay, I'd recommend making your reservations in advance, for example, the Emeraude was sold out when we were there). Yes, there are a few scam artists out there, but they're everywhere, and can generally be avoided. I guess I'd ask, if you went to New York or San Francisco, would you take a tour? If so, then it's probably a good idea for you to take a tour in Vietnam, but if not, then I'd say there's no more need for a tour in Vietnam than there is in those cities.

It is hot, humid and heavy rain sometimes. I did my Vietnam trip with Vietnam Exotic Tours 3 months ago. They were great.

Could I ask a question about tours such as Vietnam Exotic Tours and ANZ Travel? Are these just people who will make all your arrangements for you (hotels, intra-Asia travel, pickups and dropoffs), or are these tours of the sort that pick you up at you hotel in the morning, take you around with a group on a set program, and drop you off at the end of the day?

Most of the local companies offer both options. The thing to watch out for is that some will design a "custom" program for you which turns out to be the same as their pre-packaged tours, and may even put you on a bus with lots of other touists for parts of it.

I notice that both of the people mentioning a specific company (both the OP and richman) are new posters and this is their only post. I would suspect they may have connections to the mentioned companies.

In my opinion, the best time for visiting Vietnam in autumn (Sept–Dec) and spring (March and April) are probably the most favourable seasons if you’re covering the whole country.

I agree with Brendan24. If you come Vietnam in June, the weather if fine but it starts to getting hotter. You ask about ANZ travel, I think you should find information about the tour that they give to you, the hotel, the place you go. Which tour you choose from them, share with us, so then we can say it clearly

That's summer time in Vietnam. It's quite hot and there is often sudden downpours at late afternoon. If you're a beach lover, this weather is definitely suitable for going to beaches. Here are some awesome beaches around Vietnam that you should not miss: Ha Long Bay (Quang Ninh province), Mui Ne (Ninh Thuan province,Lang Co (Quang Binh province, Nha Trang beach, Phu quoc, etc. Or else, going to some cool and peaceful places such as Sapa, Dalat may be a good choice

Different parts of Vietnam that you would like to travel to have slightly different weather. In June it is hot in Hanoi, Hue, Hoi An and Nha Trang. It often reaches to 30-32 degree at noon time but Nha Trang is a good place for you to get tan!
Halong bay will be great to visit at this time, you will have good shot there.
In Saigon or Hochiminh city will have some rain but it often comes in the afternoon so should be well-prepared with and umbrella or a raincoat.
