Things to do in Delhi

Hi. I am traveling to Delhi for a week and am looking for some good advice on what to do while I'm there. I have read lots about the obvious sites and attractions, so I am wondering if anyone has any good names of bazaars, restaurants or clubs to check out. I interested in shopping and wandering around, jewellery, housewares, taking pictures etc... Any advice on bargaining with drivers, and basically not being taken advantage of would be helpful.
Thanks!

Carrie

It is probably best if you arrange a driver through your hotel. Don't let him take you shopping anywhere that you do not want to go. The most interesting part of Delhi for photos is Old Delhi in the Chandni Chowk area - riding on a rickshaw is a good way to see the area. Walking around Delhi alone can be difficult because you will be approached beggars and touts. The Cottage Industries Emporium across the road from the Imperial Hotel is a good all-inlusive place where you can find housewares. Some of the more reputable jewelers have outlets in the major hotel arcades - ITC Maurya Sheraton, etc. Bukhara in the Sheraton is an excellent restaurant as is Corbett's in the Claridges. Other posters may suggest places that are further afield.

You can do a lot in Delhi apart from normal tourist sightseeing. Old Delhi is now approachable from the connaught place by the new metro - board it from near Volga Restaurant (cp) & detrain near the Sis Ganj Sikh Temple, Chandni Chowk. A round of old delhi & fatehpuri perched up on a rickshaw will set the adrenalin flowing & your camera clicking away!
You have 4 good golf courses in & around Delhi: The Delhi Golf Club, next to Oberoi's, The Jay Pee Greens, ITC & a simple but enjoyable 18-hole course near Qutab Minar.
there are several good restaurants & not astronomically expensive. Gulati's (Pandara Rd. mkt.), Quereshi's (South Ext. for mughlai), Dees Biryani under Defence colony flyover & the good old Embassy in CP.
Happy Journey!

Hi
Just returned from a holiday to India(including Delhi.
We ate at a restaurant called Pindi(serves north india punjabi cuisine).
The food was very good and is frequented by many tourists from Europe and the US.
If you feel brave ask your driver to take you to the Palika Market(off Connought Place)Unfortunately, there is no airconditioning(underground market)
but the leather jackets and handbags we bought were very reasonable and stylish.Enjoy bargaining with the traders.
cheers
