The Eugenia Hotel Bangkok?
 

Has anyone been to or heard of The Eugenia hotel? It is on Soi Sukhimvit 31, North Klongtan.

From their website it looks beautiful and their rates aren't bad if you book a package for 3 nights incl. breakfast, round trip to airport, 24 hr room service etc.
They quoted me 17,000 baht net for 3 nights.

Not having been to Bankgok I don't know the areas at all. I am wondering if this is a good location that even if it is not within walking distance to restaurants and sites, it offers ease of transportation.

We are also considering staying 5 nights at the Arun residence ( Arun Suite) which is on the River, for the begining of our trip and then staying at The Eugenia for our last 3 nights in BKK.

Do a search here (type Eugenia) into the search box above. There has been a fair amount of discussion about the place. The dead animal heads everywhere put me off.

As I remember, it's a bit away from a skytrain stop, an important consideration in this area.

I personally don't care for them either but my husband saw the website and he likes the look of the hotel and the fact that it is small and the beds sound comfy. He doesn't mind the taxidermy and I do, so let's see who wins this discussion.

I am checking into other hotels recommended my many here.

There are more than a few choices and I am a bit overwhelmed to say the least.

If I could, I would reserve at either The Peninsula or Oriental and be done with it. However I took a look a their rates and I am afraid that they are over our budget at the moment.

That means that I am still on a quest to find the "perfect" hotel that is in a convenient location, charming, comfortable, good service and is in the price range of $150.00 more or less!

The answer- Marriott Resort and Spa - its in your price range, its on the river, the boat ride to the sky train is wonderful and they have the best pool - with the most shade bar none.

haha. Sorry Kathie. I just saw on the website that it really does have animal heads in the lobby.

just be sure of your dates etc before reserving....they are great and include the 17% tax/service and usually breakfasts...

Try to pull up one of my trip reports. I did an extensive report on the place 2-3 years back as a Thai friend and I went over to check it out out of curiosity. It's near the serviced apartment building that I stay in. And yes, it's the dead animal place. I wrote about it in my report. The taxidermist must have made a fortune.It's a nice place if one can get past the animal thing. Happy Travels!

Personally, I think the Eugenia is quite a beautiful hotel. The decor is stunning--kind of a blast back in time. Bu then again, animal heads, i gues don't bother me all that much. We were supposed to stay there this past December but it ended up being a bit over our budget for Bangkok per night.

That said, if this is your first time in Bangkok, you really do want to stay somewhere a bit more central.

Sounds like you like more boutique-y hotels if you like the look of the Eugenia...and not a huge resort with a business center--take a look at Dream (maybe too modern for you?) or Arun Residence. Dream is definitely more convenient location but the view at Arun is stunning.

I'm also a big fan of Old Bangkok Inn...we stayed there our first time in Bangkok and loved it. Location is a bit off-the-track too, but I loved the adventure of taking the canal boats to get to the SkyTrain...once you get used to it, it's very easy to get around.

Billt the Marriot does have a great location and the rates are well within our range especially for what they offer. It would be perfect if it wasn't such a large resort.

Filmwill, you are right we do prefer boutique hotels. I looked at Dream originally and had thought it a bit too modern but if you say the location is good I might reconsider that as an option.
The Old Bangkok Inn was brought to my attention before. I liked their concept and the fact that they got rave reviews, especially for the service.
While I don't mind taking the canal boats to the sky train, I thought the rooms looked a bit too dark.
Did you find this to be the case or is it the photos in the website?

Arun is also a possibility since it's on the river and of course it has that stunning view!

We might end up staying at two different hotels since we will be coming back for 3 nights to BKK.
So perhaps a compromise will be reached b/n my hubby and I.
Maybe we'll stay at Eugenia at the end and choose one of the others for our first 5 nights...

while marriott is large it does not feel that large...

What is the problem with the "large" resort? Its not like there are thousands of people there, long lines for everything. Its easy to get a pool lounge chair thats in the shade no less. The breakfast lines are short, if there is a line at all? I'm not sure what the problem is here?

kikiv, our room (the Orchid Suite) was a bit on the darker side, but it was also extremely beautiful...kind of like a two-storey French colonial barn, if you can imagine. Lighting didn't really bother us, as we were really only in-room late at night. But, in retrospect, I guess you could say that some rooms are on the dark side.

Although the room they have that has the outdoor patio (can't think of the name off-hand) had oodles of natural light...and I think most ground floor rooms do as well.

Billt I am sure there is no problem with the Marriot, it is just that we prefer smaller properties.
It is a personal preference.
