The Continent - New Bangkok Hotel
I just visited one of Bangkok's newest hotels, The Continent, which just soft opened on the 10th (formal opening is set for 12/12/12). It was scheduled to be a Ramada, but the owner changed their mind at the last minute and decided to go independent. The location is just a few steps from the Asoke intersection, so it's close to both the Skytrain and subway, as well as Terminal 21.
Like Riva Surya, The Continent claims five stars although it's not really in the same class as the Oriental, Penn or FS. It's a tall thin building, with just seven rooms per floor. The rooms are a bit small, but nicely laid out, with all the amenities, although it's perhaps worth noting that most rooms don't have a bath-tub. Like most new high-rise hotels, there's lots going on at the top. A lounge covers the two top-most floors, with the pool (a very tiny pool) and gym on the floors below that. The main restaurant is on the 35th floor. I've posted photos and some more observations on one of my blogs: http://theposhguide.com/blog/2012/11...hotel-bangkok/ Note that there's a pretty good deal on for the soft opening, at 50% off which puts it around $75 a night. You can get the deal directly or through Agoda (you might even get a better price from Agoda). |
Trying to picture where this might be. Asoke is a really good location.

Carol, if you know the big building on the corner with the Citibank branch, the hotel is tucked into the space made by that L-shaped building. If you take the Skytrain bridge across the intersection from the station, use the stairs down by the Citibank building, it's just two doors further down Sukhumvit from there.
Actually, the Citibank building blocks the view up Sukhumvit towards Siam, which I think is the best view, but you sill have a nice view of the big park and lake next to the convention center, as well as the Millenium condominiums. |
Isn't Jasmine building in there somewhere also? So, according to the web site, the address is ON Sukhumvit... right? The bar on the upper floors looks nice. Any outside seating?
|
The new hotel is located just behind Citibank at the Asok intersection, see here: http://milepoint.com/forums/threads/...4#post-1700490

Yes, the entrance is on Sukhumvit, well before you get to the Jasmine building. It literally is just a few steps from the intersection.
There's a small outdoor space on the top-floor lounge, but it's really tiny (more for smokers, I take it, than for the view). |
Michael, not such a great place for a drink then? I really like roof of Sofitel.
|
Yeah, Carol, I think the Sofitel has a much better view, and is a little roomier as well.
BTW, in case you all missed it, Hyatt just announced their first Grand Hyatt for Bangkok. It will be on Sukhumvit 15, but won't open until 2015. |
What about the Grand Hyatt Erawan? That has been around for ages.

I agree that The Continent hotel build in Good location for transportation both BTS and MRT and also near Terminal21 , can walk to Nana just 15 mins or take BTS one station.
