The Banyan Tree doorman

Has anyone seen this guy? The film industry could easily create a sitcom, based on him, using him as the character. He's absolutely hilarious without even attempting to be...he's a really plump guy in his late 20's wearing a purple "gay-safari"-style uniform (it looks a little too tight..poor guy looks very uncomfortable, but he really goes out of his way being extremely cordial and helpful). His voice, if you can imagine, is like a cross between a young boy and a woman, and he's very enthusiastic. Anyone seen him before? He really is a super nice guy, but he really struck me in a hilarious way. Sorry if this seems to be a weird post, but I just want to see if there are any others who noticed him.

I forgot to also mention that he looks like he's leuk kreung.

I know the man! Good guy and he also park, valet, cars as well. I always have a quick chat with him before we enter the hotel, usually about mobile phone!

To which Banyan Tree are you referring?

Mango7 May 11th, 2009 09:26 AM

Yeah, Hanuman, he really is a nice guy. Its funny how certain people can really make your stay more enjoyable. I just feel sorry for the guy.. He looks so hot in his uniform! And then they have that damned bonfire blazing away at the front door!!

Mango: I am considering this hotel. Can you tell us a little about it--location, pool, etc...

I am trying to decide between quite a few options that look good for next winter..

Hi ekscrunchy,

All in all, its a very nice and beautiful hotel. Normally, upscale hotels don't impress me often, so something in the middle with a perfect location is usually ideal. Location at this hotel is OK and easily accessible, but a little out of the way from where I like to usually be (i.e., main shopping areas). Pool looks decent, although I didn't actually make it there. Rooftop bar is beautiful at night..but only go for the drinks since food is reputed to be just ok. Doorman is awesome (:]). The breakfast is really the best I've seen thus far. My only minor gripes about the place is the location and the lobby usually being so warm. Also, it just occurred to me that there was a persistent solvent smell on the room levels, much like how varnish smells. These are the only really nitpicky things, so don't hesitate booking with the Banyan Tree. Most would agree its worth it as long as you're getting a decent deal. Good Luck!

banyon tree was the former hyatt....it was the #1 hotel in bkk for tourists a few years back....then the new hyatt opened and this became just a banyon tree....its a hi-rise in the main business district of town, a bit issolated, but with fabulous restaurants and a rooftop bar which i consider the best in bkk.....all rooms are suites....its top notch...

MichaelBKK May 12th, 2009 06:33 AM

Well, have you ever seen the guys at the Landmark in their pink monkey suits?

MichaelBKK May 12th, 2009 06:34 AM

Oh, and the Banyan Tree was never a Hyatt. It was a Westin, of all things, before Banyan Tree took it over.
