Thank You Dara in Siem Reap!

I only had a brief two full days in SR and I wanted to recommend and thank Dara for the wonderful tour of the temples. Thanks to Fodorites, I was able to contact Ponheary in advance and she was able to confirm Dara as my guide which made for an experience I won't forget since he was not only an excellent guide for the temples, but also it was so interesting learning about his turbulent life and the Cambodian people's way of life now. I was lucky enough to meet up with Ponheary and Lori for a drink at my hotel too-it was kind of them to make the effort to join me and I thoroughly enjoyed meeting them! Am not sure if I'll do a trip report since I really did not go off the beaten path at all but northern Thailand and Siem Reap were wonderful destinations, even traveling alone.

Jackie, I'd love to read your trip report. You may not feel you went off the beaten path, but we all experience things differently, and your presepective will be fun for others to read and may well encourage other women to travel alone.

Okay, I did keep some notes and will try to put something coherent together. The trip was so much better than I even expected!

As you can tell from many reports, coherency is no requirement. We look forward to your impressions.

Happy to hear that! I'm sure most people are writing reports still in a daze of jetlag so at least we have an excuse.

Moremiles is right! I'm still dazed, but eagerly waiting to hear your point of view.

Yep. I've been home for 4 days and I am still completely dazed, but valiantly trying to do my trip report, a little every day.

So get to it! We want to hear more...

Timeliness is much more important than rationality. Plus, with jet lag there's a greater possibility of indiscretion.

Jackie

It was great to meet you in Siem Reap. Thanks for taking time at the end of a long day of touring to chat with Ponheary and I.

The irony is not lost on me that I've met more Fodorites on the other side of the planet than I ever did at home!

Thanks Lori to you and Ponheary to make the effort after a busy and tiring day to join me-we may meet again someday!

My guide's name was Dara and he is the brother of Ponheary- both had been recommended highly on this board. For two days of touring, with a car/driver, it cost $135. We started at 7:30am until about lunchtime then they picked me up again at 3pm and we'd be out until 6 or 6:30.
