Thailand - Where to stay in Phuket?

Hello,

My wife and I are going to Thailand in November/December and our trip includes 4 full days in Phuket. Our only problem is deciding what area of Phuket to stay! Can anyone recommend an area of Phuket to stay (and maybe even a few hotels)? We plan on exploring the island and taking a couple boat trips. We would prefer a small/medium size town with restaurants, nice beach, and in good area for moving around the island (somewhere we can easily get a cab or tuk tuk). I would prefer to not stay in Patong or Phuket city.

Thank you for your help!!!

Per night price range for your hotel?

Are you open to staying in nearby beach areas like Ko Lak?

Bob, I think most people goto Phuket (or Samui or Koh Lak, etc) to relax and enjoy the beach, not to sightsee.

Take a look at Kata Beach or Kata Noi as possibilities.

I always like Kata and Kata Noi. Look at the Boathouse on Kata or Mom Tri's Villa Royale overlooking Kata Noi, or Katathani on Kata Noi. Most expensive is Villa Royale (but fabulous).

A (considerable) step up from Boathouse. I've stayed at both. I really like the "named villas" at Villa Royale. I need to take a look at the web site to confirm the two that I have occupied in the past.

Boathouse is nice. Don't get me wrong. So is Kata Thani. Boathouse has (used to have) one of the best restaurants... the Grill. I assume it is still there. Villa Royale has MomTri's Kitchen, also superb.

There has been some remodeling of the original named suites, for sure. Wow!! We stayed in Suite 3, Dhamma Raksa. I can't see the other one on the site, but it was right above the 'main pool' and had a bathtub that you could soak in, and see the sea!

Looks like I need to go back to Villa Royale! It's been years.... (I'd want Dao-a-Dung suite, for sure!!!)

We are looking for a resort on the beach in Phuket. We want to just walk out of our rooms onto the beach. Any suggestions??
