Prachup, I'm not sure that it's a terrible thing to use animals for food or products, but mass consumerism has caused us to think of animals as products, rather than feeling beings that experience pain. Also, in some cultures (often the case with Thailand's elephants) there are other reasons used to justify animal cruelty such as superstition and tradition.
