Thailand - the weather
 

My fiancee and I are hoping to do Thailand for our honeymoon. The plan would be to go the first two weeks in October. After a little investigation, I have noticed this is kind of the rainy season. My question is, how much rain? Should we avoid certain areas because of the weather? Is it the type of rain that ruins an entire day/week? or just an hour or two each day? We have back-up options if you think Thailand is not a good choice. Should we investigate those or would Thailand be fine.

There is really no time of the year when all of Thailand is rainy, so check each location in Thailand you are thinking about.

Another option for a honeymoon is Bali - really a magical place! If you opt for Bali, spend part of your time at a beach and part of your time inland near Ubud.

In 15 years of living in Thailand, I think I can count on one hand the number of days when it's rained all day. During the rainy season, the rains come in heavy thunderstorms, usually in the late afternoon.

October is one of those months that can be really bad one year, and good another.

Bali is a good alternative. It will be starting to get hot, but at least it will be dry. It's also much easier to move around, since you don't have to fly to get from the beach to the mountains.

We were in Thailand last week of September and first week of October. No rain in BKK (went there first). In Chiang Mai (2nd place), there was flooding around the River, but could manuever around; water about half calf high but only around the River area. In town, no problem. In Chiang Rai and Golden Triangle(3rd place), no problems. Although since this is considered low season, there were no flights between C.Mai and C.Rai. We took a van; very cheap. Hope this info helps. Thailand is AMAZING!!!!

My wife and I have been to Thailand a couple of time in September and this is also a part of the wet season. Yes, you can expect some rain and more or less on a daily basis. But normally it does not rain all day long.
